The South Central Farmers and their supporters are gearing up for a busy week of actions to 'save the farm' . The South Central Farm, at 14-acres, is believed to be the largest urban farm in the U.S., which amazingly thrives in one of the poorest areas of the country.
The S. Central Farmers Support Committee is organizing a number of demonstrations, vigils, and other actions to save the farm. Nightly vigils are taking place at the L.A. Mayor's Mansion at 605 S. Irving St.. in the Hancock Park neighborhood of Los AngelesBelow is their events schedule and a video segment from their recent press conference:
Schedule of actions for week of May 14-20, 2006
-Though we only listed one evening below, we will be holding a vigil every night at the Mayor’s House. We are asking of our supporting organizations to take a day and organize their members to hold the vigil. Members of the support coalition have held one there the past three nights. Please contact us with the night you’d like to take so we may also announce it. Thank you.
Monday 5/15:
-Contact the Los Angeles City Council and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa asking them to Support the Farmers stopping the physical ejection and destruction at the farm. (info. provided below)
Tuesday 5/16:
- Candlelight Vigil at the Mayor’s House sponsored by Support Coalition 7:00pm (info below)
-Attend City Council Meeting and speak during public comments @ 9:30am. Express your concern for the Mayor and City Council not doing anything publicly to prevent the destruction of the South Central Farm.
-Contact the Los Angeles City Council and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa asking them to Support the Farmers stopping the physical ejection and destruction at the farm.
Wednesday 5/17:
