Four fans celebrating a birthday at Giants Stadium were plucked from their \r\n seats by New Jersey State Police and detained for nearly an hour as FBI agents \r\n probed their religious beliefs, the men charged yesterday.<\/p>\r\n
The alleged racial profiling during the Sept. 19 Giants-Saints game - the second \r\n such charge leveled against the stadium on that day - humiliated the men and \r\n set off a barrage of hateful jibes from fans in the upper deck, they said.<\/p>\r\n
\"When we got the tickets we said, 'This was going to be a day we'll never \r\n forget,'\" said Mathew Varughese, a Westchester County lawyer. \"And, \r\n indeed, it was a day we'll never forget.\"<\/p>\r\n
Varughese, 26, an Indian-American, said FBI agents were cordial, but aggressive \r\n as they probed the mens' religious backgrounds and nationalities before releasing \r\n them 45 minutes later.<\/p>\r\n
They also allegedly asked the men - two Indian-Americans, a Dominican-American \r\n and another friend who is multiracial - if they had cameras or if they had been \r\n praying. The friends, all of whom are Christian, answered 'no' to both questions.<\/p>\r\n
A group of Muslim men have said they were the victims of racial profiling and \r\n detained at the game for praying.<\/p>\r\n
Varughese and his friends do not plan on filing a lawsuit.<\/p>\r\n
The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and the FBI denied the allegations. \r\n FBI spokesman Steve Siegel said the agents had responded to concerns from other \r\n fans. <\/p>\r\n

But Brian Hecht of The Investigative Project notes that Elsayed has a long history of justifying terrorist attacks against Israelis: \u201cthe jihad is a must for everyone, a child, a lady and a man,\u201d he has said. \u201cThey have to make jihad with every tool that they can.\u201d\r\n\r\nQueen Noor of Jordan embodied this hypocrisy when she stated that the Amman terrorists \u201cmade a significant tactical error here, because they have attacked innocent civilians, primarily Muslims,\u201d implying her approval had the victims been non-Muslims.\r\n\r\nWill the Palestinians\u2019 shameful love affair with suicide killings and \u201cmartyrdom\u201d diminish after the atrocity in Amman? Might a taste of their own medicine teach them that what goes around comes around? That barbarism ultimately visits the barbarians too?\r\n\r\nSmall signs point to a shift in views, at least momentarily and in Jordan. Survey research done in 2004 at Jordan University found two-thirds of Jordanian adults seeing Al-Qaeda in Iraq as \u201ca legitimate resistance organization.\u201d After the bombings, the pollster found that nine of ten survey participants who had previously endorsed Al-Qaeda had changed their minds.\r\n\r\nTo change Palestinian behavior requires that civilized people finally get tough on suicide terrorism. That means rejecting Hamas as a political organization and excluding dialogue with it. It means shunning propagandistic movies such as \u201cParadise Now,\u201d a film that whitewashes Palestinian suicide bombing. If I'm reading this correctly, you're asking me to oppose the inherent capitalism in day labor exchanges. And you're connecting capitalism to the use of torture and terrorism by capitalist societies. I'm glad you get the connection.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
Part of my answer is the question of relative harm. Is the exchange of labor for payment (at ridiculously low but not illegal rates) by individuals and small businesses at day labor centers a great harm? Hardly, and the benefits to all parties and to the community are significant under current conditions. It's capitalism, yes, there's a pragmatic aspect to opposing SOS for me, and I know that by defending the laborers I'm not discouraging this manifestation of microcapitalism.<\/p> \r\n\r\n
As to the more important ideological question, any economic or governmental system that encourages or condones racism and xenophobia is intolerable<\/i>. Whatever system replaces capitalism (and it will be replaced) must be clear that social oppression is not acceptable. I hope I would oppose oppression (subjugation, dispossession, cultural annihilation, genocide, etc.) wherever it occurs. If that oppression is inherent and necessary to the system, as it is to capitalism, then my opposition is ultimately opposition to the system.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
The short version: I haven't lost sight of the prize, but I'm in this round, and I've got a sweet metaphorical Bolo punch for SOS and the Minutemen if I need it.
