(Background: In 1943, composer Ollie Wallace wrote a song for a Walt Disney cartoon that later won an Oscar. The song, "Der Fuehrer's Face," featured Donald Duck trapped in a nightmare in "Nazi-land," where everyone slaves away in munitions factories and reflexively has to "Sig Heil" in their sleep. The song and cartoon, which poured ridicule on Hitler and the Nazis at a time when it was far from clear who would win the war, became wildly popular. I say, it's time to bring back the Spirit of '43! We have an immigrant governor who has made political hay out of anti-immigrant sentiment. Add to that his own family's Nazi past, and he is RIPE for this kind of satire. I don't suppose anyone will be singing it at Pershing Square tomorrow, but give it time. :)
(The song can be heard on a Dr. Demento compilation CD, and the cartoon can be seen on a "Disney Treasures" DVD. Some may question my use of "ethnic" German accents as part of the humor, but what the hell -- it's against a crypto-Nazi, immigrant-bashing, worker-trashing governor who really does talk that way, so I'll accept the rotten tomatoes for my bad taste. :)
