Abolitionists supported feminists. Feminists supported the Civil Rights Movement. So, expanding voting rights helps to expand voting rights, if it's done with the intent of universal sufferage.\r\n\r\nI'm not saying that activism outside of the electoral system wasn't important. It was the primary way the rights were secured. But, ultimately, it required people who were represented within the system to agree that these disenfranchised groups should have the right to vote, and to change the law from within.\r\n\r\nMoreover, if voting didn't matter, then, why was there such a focus on getting the vote? It means something to someone.\r\n\r\nVoting is hardly the end-all of politics.
