What Happened to Peace?"","article":"For this particular exhibit, the curator\/organizer was concerned about the "dying arts" of hand made prints... that is, silkscreens, lithographs, linocuts, woodcuts, and monoprints (single unique prints). \r\n\r\nIt was thought that this show could not only present strong political opposition to war and militarism... but it could also promote the unique art of hand made prints, which have been suffering lately because of the amount of digital art being produced. No one has anything against digital art, sculpture, video, or any other expressive medium... but the curator\/organizer was making a political point by focusing on a traditional medium that has been "out of vogue" and dying on the vine of late.\r\n\r\nThe "Yo! What Happened to Peace?" exhibit is quite extraordinary, both for it's commitment to a progressive voice AND to it's commitment to the fine art of print making. The website for the project does NOT do justice to the entire exhibition, which contains over 150 fine art prints by a nearly equal number of talented artists. She's the queen of anti-globalization art.\r\n\r\nThe other is Mark Vallen at Shenere Velt at the Arbeter Ring (Workmen's Circle) on Robertson.\r\n\r\nAnother exhibition of photographs of LA is coming up at Crewest, a graff gallery in Alhambra on Valley (kind of on the west end of town). This one could be good.\r\n\r\nAlso, there's an art sale at Flor Y Canto this coming Sunday. There should be a lot of low-cost art there for your wall.\r\n\r\nSee ya in the streets.","author":"imc reposter guy","parent_id":114783,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2004-07-30 03:38:38","modified":"2004-07-30 03:38:38","fileurl":""}]}
