That would mean they would have to seek gainful employment instead of stirring up bitterness.\r\n\r\nHating whites isn't going to help YOU. Listening to those who encourage envy instead of hard work isn't going to help YOU. Blaming dead whites for past injustices isn't going to teach YOU valuable job skills or make YOU aware of the opportunitites open to YOU...NOW.\r\n\r\nDr. King didn't condemn whites; he sought equal protection under the law. Don't let those who pretend to be in the same league as King warp and exploit his legacy for personal gain.\r\n\r\nSay no to this Crass character and YES to your future. Civil Rights has been the norm from 1965 to 2004, only 39 years. Undoing racism is a cultural project that will take generations.\r\n\r\nAffirmative Action has been called "legal reverse discrimination". If that phrase seems to hold any merit, it's because were in a culture of "forward discrimination" of white favortism as the cultural norm. Incidences of discrimination against whites look far worse than the indicences of discrimination against nonwhites. Favortism to whites is expected, while favortism to anyone else seems unusual.\r\n\r\nAlso, the post above is another attempt by conservatives to co-opt MLK.\r\n\r\nKing supported affirmative action and legal correctives to present-day discrimination. He also supported poor workers in organizing themselves. He was opposed to the Vietnam War, and war in general. Within the civil rights movement, he was a moderate, but the movement itself was far to the left of even the most moderate conservative Republicans today. (He's to the left of moderate liberal Democrats too.)\r\n","author":"more rational","parent_id":105253,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2004-03-20 16:56:55","modified":"2004-03-20 16:56:55","fileurl":""},{"id":105422,"heading":"end racism","article":""End all race based legal distinctions."\r\n\r\nEnd race based social distinctions.\r\n\r\nI was in the IE, and, believe me, segregation still exists.","author":"more rational","parent_id":105253,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2004-03-20 17:01:05","modified":"2004-03-20 17:01:05","fileurl":""}]}
