\r\nAristide Kidnapping: Petition Seeks International Investigation<\/b>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n
\r\nInspired by the word getting out on Democracy Now!, Radio Free USA, ZNet and elsewhere, a new \"Request for Relief from the International Court of Justice\" petition is asking US Citizens to join together to seek an international investigation of the kidnapping of Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide by the U.S. on February 29, 2004.\r\n<\/p>\r\n \r\n
\r\nCalls for this type of investigation are being issued by leaders such as the South African foreign affairs minister Diamini Zuma, the CARICOM Heads of Government, and Michael Ratner of Center for Constitutional Rights.\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n
\r\nThe petition states \"I do not feel that I can trust the investigative authorities of my nation, either law enforcement or legislative, to honestly determine the truth in this grave matter\" and informs the International Court of Justice (ICJ) \" I am now writing to your good offices to seek relief in the form of an investigation of charges that my government has violated numerous international laws\" and that \"as citizens of a democracy, all of us are liable for the actions of our government. If in fact my government is acting as a \"rogue state\" in support of terrorists, coups and illegal invasions in the world, it will be fair to judge that it has been the citizens of my nation who bear responsibility .\"\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n
