It got me thinking. How progressive is it of us to ally ourselves with forces who kill its own citizens to prevent the propogation of democracy and human rights in the Middle East? Indymedia people, if you really are \"progressive\", you should be supporting the students in Iran who risk their lives to overthrow that oppressive regime. Not sitting in the comfort of the US and making excuses for the regime's brutality. Why do you support the Iranian regime? Simply because GWB is direct enough to call it an evil regime.

<\/p>\n","contact":"","link":"","address":"","phone":"","parent_id":0,"mime_type":"text\/plain","summary":"I just watched that Frontline special about Iran.","numcomment":5,"fileurl":"\/uploads\/","filesize":null,"article_url":"\/news\/2004\/01\/99863.php"},"attachments":[],"comments":[{"id":99864,"heading":"You are a moron.","article":"First of all, since none of us support the Iranian government and you assert that we do, we must conclude that you are not one of us but rather someone intending to pretend to be one of us in an effort to find an "in" and use that "in" to put forth your Zionist bullshit.\r\n\r\nMany of us are anarchists. Someone from somewhere posts something that's pro-Iran, and you say the IMC is supporting it. It looks like it was just some anonymous poster.\r\n\r\nThey let a lot of weird stuff up that doesn't seem to have anything to do with what the IMC is about. Obviously, the stuff in the middle is the IMC's viewpoint, but this self-publish area is a free-for all.\r\n\r\nPersonally, I think the government of Iran is repressive, but probably more liberal than during the Iranian Revolution. They do allow that student movement to exist. I think I've seen some of their stuff up on this IMC too.\r\n\r\nI hope that the CIA and US don't intervene in Iran again. The last time we did, we deposed Mossadek, a democratically elected PM who was unfriendly to Western oil interests, and installed the Shah Reza Pahlavi, a puppet dictator who ripped off the people so bad that the Shi'ite fundamentalists could build a militant radical base that eventually overthrew the Shah, took Americans hostage, demonized the US, and turned Iran into a fundie state. Our enemies didn't appear from thin air. They were formed as a response to *our* dictator.\r\n\r\n(This ain't some conspiracy theory. Maddie Albright admitted as much, and numerous critics have interjected that she's minimizing what we did. In fact, the US press were complicit in the overthrow of Iran. You can find that analysis on the web.)","author":"more rational","parent_id":99863,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2004-01-10 08:46:17","modified":"2004-01-10 08:46:17","fileurl":""},{"id":99889,"heading":"War","article":""We oppose war unless it is revolutionary war."\r\n\r\nRight.
