I realize you can't help it; you've been indoctrinated by the freedom- and America-hating socialist who fear any sort of American military and technological superiority.\r\n\r\nThe Spirit is designed to penetrate enemy defenses, engage its target with precision-guided munitions (destroying tagets of military value and minimizing collateral damage, i.e., dead civilians), and returning to its base, ensuring survivability of its aircrew.\r\n\r\nContrast the Spirit with the B-17 used in WWII.  Hundreds of bombers were sortied, dropping thousands fo tons of bombs to destroy a single target, wiping out entire city blocks and hundreds of innocent lives.  As many as 50% of the -17s didn't make it back, succumbing to AA fire and German fighters.
