The officers claimed that the MBTA station, including its exterior, are private property. The officers removed only political signs and banners from walls outside of the station leaving all commercial signs in their place. When the dissidents asked the police officers why they were removing only political speech and not commercial speech, the officers struggled to find an answer, claimed to telephone someone to remove the other signs, and then left.
