Is\r\nBush the New Hitler?<\/b><\/p>\r\n
When a Jewish American responded to my comparison of Bush to Hitler, he\r\nindignantly claimed that such comparisons diminished the significance of the\r\nHolocaust. I beg to differ. If anything, it highlights the lessons\r\nlearned by the Holocaust. Hitler's rampage of murder and war reached its\r\nend in 1945, but Hitler began laying the groundwork for his genocide\r\napproximately two decades before. Until Hitler began shoveling the bodies\r\nof gassed Jews, Gypsies, Poles, and dissidents into the ovens, many in the\r\nUnited States supported Hitler. In fact, the American people did not\r\nwillingly enter World War II. They entered only when Roosevelt permitted\r\nthe Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor. Thus, it is no surprise that the\r\nAmerican population would support yet another Hitler.<\/p>\r\n
The pre-genocide Hitler was portrayed to the German people as a quintessentially\r\nfolksy and German man, much like Bush is portrayed to the American people as a\r\nquintessentially folksy and American man. The pre-genocide Hitler sought\r\nto undermine German democracy in much the same way as Bush has undermined\r\nAmerican democracy. The pre-genocide Hitler manipulated and controlled the\r\nmedia, carefully scripting every depiction of Hitler as a popular leader, much\r\nas Bush is portrayed in the American media. The pre-genocide Hitler abused\r\nthe rights of Jews much like Bush abuses the rights of Arabs and Muslims. \r\nThe pre-genocide Hitler seized upon acts of terrorism (the\r\nReichstag Fire) much as Bush has seized upon the events of 9\/11 as a means\r\nto push forward his totalitarian mission.<\/p>\r\n

The point is not whether Bush of 2003 equals Hitler of 1945, the point is\r\nwhether Bush of 2003 equals Hitler of 1939.
