“Iraq and The Good Samaritan”

As my armored Mercedes 500 SEL taxi glided through the interchange between the Begin Freeway in Jerusalem and the Jericho-Jordan Valley-Dead Sea Freeway on the way to the Allenby Bridge over the Jordan River I began to recite the following excerpt from a speech written by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel.

I remember the first time that myself and Mrs. King visited Israel. It was a few months’s after G-d’s chosen people reclaimed all of the Kingdom of Israel in the war of 1967.

We landed at Lod Airport, which is about halfway between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. We rented a car and drove on up into Jerusalem.

As we drove into Jerusalem I saw a sign for the Jericho Road and I said to Mrs. King, “ I would like to drive the Jericho Road to see the setting of the greatest story Jesus ever told; the story of the Good Samaritan.”

As you get started on the Jericho Road you leave Jerusalem, which is about 2200 feet above sea level. By the time you get on down to Jericho, which is on the northern shore of the Dead Sea, you are about 3000 feet below sea level.

Now that’s a dangerous road.

It’s a winding, meandering road.

It’s very conducive for ambushing.

The Jericho Road is so dangerous that in the days of Jesus it came to be known as “Maleeh Adumim,” which in Hebrew means, “The Bloody Pass.”

Jesus told a story of a man who was lying helpless and wounded on the Jericho Road. The man had fallen victim to thieves.

A priest passed by, but he didn’t stop to help this man.

A Levite passed by, but he didn’t stop to help this man either.

Most people believe that the priest and the Levite were merely selfish.

But as we drove down the Jericho Road I told Mrs. King that maybe it was possible that they were afraid that the thieves were still in the area.

Or perhaps they thought that the man was merely faking in order to lure them over for quick and easy seizure.

Or maybe the priest and the Levite were in a hurry to get on up to Jerusalem to participate in religious ceremonies which obliged them not to touch another human body for 24 hours prior to the said ceremonies.

Or perhaps they decide to hurry on down to Jericho to form a Jericho Road Improvement Association.

In order to deal with the problem from the causal root rather than getting bogged down with an individual effort.

But whatever the case may have been, the fact of the matter is that the priest and the Levite asked themselves only one question, “If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?”

And then the Good Samaritan came by and he reversed the question.

The Good Samaritan asked himself,

“If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?”

The question I would like to ask the entire would is, “If we do not stop to help the people of Iraq, what will happen to them?”

What will happen to the tens of thousands of starving and dehydrated orphan children lying on the streets of Baghdad?

Michael Moore was so proud to stand up at the Academy Awards, the annual convention of the 600,000 strong bleeding heart liberal Hollywood Jewish elite and be applauded by everyone inside the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion as he shouted, “We are against this war Mr. Bush! Shame on you Mr. Bush!”

But Michael Moore’s fat ass is nowhere to be found in Baghdad. He and his 600,000 counterparts are much happier living in their air-conditioned nightmare in Beverly Hills and blowing coke and getting BJ’s from nice Jewish girls who used to work for Heidi Fleiss.

Red Cross launched an appeal on 20 March 2003 for 111 million Swiss Francs to manage the humanitarian crisis in Iraq for a 9-month period.

As of yesterday, Red Cross headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland is still reporting that they are 94 million Swiss Francs short.

With all of their trillions of American dollars, the Hollywood Jewish elite cannot even come up with a lousy 111 million Swiss Francs for the Red Cross humanitarian relief operation in Iraq.

And what of the 250,000 strong San Francisco Bay Area Jewish elite?

All that California’s nearly 1 million strong (915,000 Jews live in California according to the latest study on the diaspora conducted by Tel Aviv University) bleeding heart liberal Jews can do is prove the thesis of Peter Collier and David Horowitz’s “Destructive Generation: Second Thoughts About the Sixties.”

When the survivors of the holocaust were unwelcome in their former hometowns in Europe it was Red Cross that took them in to the displaced persons camps until they could travel to Israel.

Today, Red Cross is trying to take in the survivors of Sadaam Hussein’s deposed regime.

Without Swiss Francs, Red Cross can do very little.

I was born and raised as a member of California’s Jewish elite.

I refuse to believe that there are no Good Samaritans amongst the nearly 1 million bleeding heart liberal California Jews.
