Written for the event in February, the spirit of the info still is valid.

In an attempt to thwart the choking death of the public airwaves, FCC Chairperson Michael Copps will be attending the Public Hearing this Monday on the FCC's Media Ownership Rules hosted at USC.

In an media environment that favors simplicity over sustained critical focus, USC organizer Sandra Ortiz hopes that the the event will allow for a discussion on what constitures "media diversity." Activists hope to push this definition beyond Michael Powells homillies about a media of the 21st century. At stake is the regulations barring one corporation from owning an entire city's media.

Media activists have been organizing to halt the deregulation, calling for people to attend this forums. After an unprecedented response to the FCC's review, the Media Alliance hopes that by forcing the issue into the media and by supporting dissenting voices in the FCC, activists can halt deregulation. Here is a possibly outdated description of the hearing's proceedings and suggestions on how attendees can impact the hearings.
