First volunteers for citizen border militia to be \r\ninducted Saturday \r\n<\/p>

\r\nThe leader of Tombstone's citizens militia says the \r\norganization intends to conduct its operations on \r\npublic lands, have members apply to carry concealed \r\nweapons and will patrol routes leading to water \r\nstations established by humanitarian groups. \r\n<\/p>
\r\n\"We're stepping on to public lands, and I dare the \r\ngovernment to come and arrest 50 people,\" said Chris \r\nSimcox, owner of the Tombstone Tumbleweed, and \r\norganizer of a citizens militia he now calls the Civil \r\nHomeland Defense Force. \r\n<\/p>
\r\nSimcox said the adjustment in patrol strategy was \r\nforced by the \"tremendous pressure\" from the media and \r\ngovernment officials that caused property owners to \r\nback away from cooperation with his organization. \r\n<\/p>
\r\nDespite the growing pressure, Simcox said he intends \r\nto \"keep the flame burning on high until the federal \r\ngovernment puts troops on the border.\" \r\n<\/p>
\r\nOn Saturday the first 50 of more than 600 volunteers \r\nwill be inducted and begin a course of training that \r\nincludes qualification for a state issued concealed \r\nweapons permit, he said. \r\n<\/p>
\r\n\"We're going to use the government to screen our \r\nvolunteers. Everyone who comes will have to get a \r\nconcealed weapons permit and will have to go through \r\nthat screening . . . a felony background check and an \r\nFBI check,\" Simcox said. \r\n<\/p>
\r\nThe initial strategy will be to conduct patrols in the \r\nareas where humanitarian water stations and beacons \r\nhave been established by groups hoping to aid illegal \r\nborder crossers on their dangerous journey. \r\n<\/p>
