The group hosted\r\nworkshops and ceremonies in Las Vegas and out in the desert at the Nevada\r\nTest Site at midnight to welcome the new\r\nmillennium–taking action for peace. More than 300 people were arrested\r\nat the Test Site just after midnight, ringing in the new year on January\r\n1st 2000---the first mass arrests for civil resistance of this century,\r\nless than a month after the battle for Seattle. Unfortunately, the prayers\r\ndidn’t have an immediate effect: as we all have seen, the\r\ndomination system in this century seems to uphold injustice and violence\r\never more viciously. From the cries of the victims of 9-11 to the USA’s\r\nplans to further\r\ncripple and destroy the people of Iraq to the impending growth of the\r\ncarcinogenic nuclear\r\nindustry with its inherent\r\ndangers, humanity is in deep trouble. Now more than ever, people\r\nneed to gather and take collective actions based in Love and Peace. So\r\nNDE again is calling people to return to the\r\ndesert to create peace on earth and good will to all.\r\n
\r\n
IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO PARTICIPATE!\r\n
Join the company of Western\r\nShoshone Spiritual Leader Corbin\r\nHarney, Pace e\r\nBene's Ken\r\nButigan, eco-philosopher Joanna\r\nMacy, cross-cultural educator Fran\r\nMacy, author and nonviolent activist John\r\nDear, and many others “For the Sake of the Future”, in Southern Nevada.\r\n
\r\n
Following nonviolence training and a vigil\/march on the Strip, the group will carpool to the Mercury Exit\r\nof US Hwy 95 (60 miles from the edge of Las Vegas) for a candle-light\r\nprocession into the Nevada Test Site. This prayer-action for the end of nuclearism will be a sobering and lovely way to spend your New Year’s Eve!<\/b>\r\n
To participate, call NDE @ (702) 646 4814 or check out: NevadaDesertExperience.org.\r\n<\/p>\n","contact":"","link":"http:\/\/www.nevadadesertexperience.org\/PeaceWalk.html","address":"","phone":"","parent_id":0,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","summary":"NevadaDesertExperience.org has been organizing interfaith retreats and events at the US nuclear test site for 20 years now.
