{"article":{"id":20931,"heading":"Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit Filed Against City of Portland","author":"The Soft-Handed Idol","created":"2002-10-29 03:42:24","modified":"2002-10-29 03:42:24","last_modified":"Tue, 29 Oct 2002 10:42:24","article":"<div align=\"center\">\r\n\r\n<table width='475\"'>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>\r\n\r\n<p align=\"center\"><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>A press conference announcing the filing of a federal civil rights lawsuit\r\nagainst the city, the mayor, chief of police and up to 50 unnamed police\r\nofficers for their violent actions against peaceful demonstrators on August 22\r\nwas held Friday at lunchtime in front of Portland City Hall.\r\n\r\n<\/p><p align=\"center\"><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Among the 9 plaintiffs in the federal civil rights lawsuit are Don Joughin\r\nand Corrina Andrews and their young children Sophie, Kiernan, and Daschle. All\r\nof them, including the youngest, 10 months old at the time, were pepper gassed\r\nby Portland police officers while standing peacefully at 2nd Avenue and Alder\r\nStreet on August 22, after being blocked in by the police.
