The purpose of the walks are to create a sense of peace \r\n and unity for people around Los Angeles. There is also an interesting history \r\n behind the walk which you can read about on the Silent Sacred Walk website at \r\n www.sacredwalks.com. The walks have \r\n gained the support of several local organizations such as the Coalition for \r\n Non violence, Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace and the Agape \r\n International Spiritual Center. Still the walks have mostly been relatively \r\n small event catering to those people who are really committed to attaining a \r\n new perspective on life, the biggest walk had 170 people in attendance. The \r\n walks start at 8:00am in the morning and last for about an hour. \r\nThe philosophy behind the walk is captured in a well known quote \r\n by Gandhi, \"There is no path to peace, peace is the path.\" As a reflection \r\n of this, during the walk there are no banners and no protest slogans. The walks \r\n are all about being pro peace and not anti anything. The organizers do not condemn \r\n anyone, neither the ones who may cause violence or the ones who may protest \r\n violence. It is the organizers view that one must push through that dialectical \r\n opposition to create a new reality. \r\nEveryone is welcome to join, no need to call to join or send \r\n money. The only requirement is that you walk in silence and if possible that \r\n you wear white clothing. The next walk is coming up this Saturday \r\n August 10th in Pasadena at Villa Park near the corner of Villa St. and Garfield \r\n Ave. starting at 8am.<\/b> For more information you can view the website \r\n at www.sacredwalks.com or call 310-877-9879 \r\n for more details. The last walk planned will culminate a years worth of walks \r\n in Silverlake on September 15th starting at the Silverlake Rec. Center and will \r\n walk around the Silverlake reservoir.\r\n
\r\n \r\n
\r\n Walkers walking come rain or shine
\r\n\r\n\r\nAt 8 O'clock in the morning on the weekend there aren't many \r\n people out but there are some.\r\n
\r\n The one who started it all.
\r\n \r\nFrom a walk in North Hollywood<\/p>\n","contact":"sacredwalks@yahoo.com","link":"www.sacredwalks.com","address":"","phone":"","parent_id":0,"mime_type":"text\/html","summary":"Silent Sacred walks offers a new perpective for todays times.","numcomment":0,"fileurl":"\/uploads\/","filesize":null,"article_url":"\/news\/2002\/08\/18282.php"},"attachments":[],"comments":[]}
