I now have the feeling I didn't resist it at all. I did what I was told, and nothing changed. I could give up or I could take action. The choice is mine.

What kind of action could stop Yucca Mountain? The Yucca Mountain plan involves every nuclear power plant in the country, and most interstates and railroad tracks-- which go through small towns and big cities. Yucca Mountain affects everyone. I could organize and inform people around the hazards of nuclear waste traveling through their back yards.

What kind of actions would actually stop the trains and trucks? If people in five towns along the nuclear sludge routes placed their bodies on the tracks and interstates, the nuclear sludge would stop! What if people in five cities and 30 towns stood together with their arms locked when the trains and trucks came?

Shove it back in our politician's faces: One Spill is Too Many!

<\/p>\n","contact":"","link":"","address":"","phone":"","parent_id":0,"mime_type":"text\/plain","summary":"take action!","numcomment":1,"fileurl":"\/uploads\/","filesize":null,"article_url":"\/news\/2002\/07\/17729.php"},"attachments":[],"comments":[{"id":17754,"heading":"be aware of govt. tricks","article":"\tAn advisory: I was in Colorado during the 80s when nuclear material was being transported through. Many people bravely did exactly as you are proposing. The government spokespeople then informed them, via the media, that the joke was on them (pretty much that tone - totally patronizing and imperial), that the trucks and train cars that had been identified as carrying the material had been only decoys; the real stuff had gotten through just fine disguised as ordinary transport. They made it sound like this was some sort of victory for the govt that we should interpret as invincibility. In reality, of course, it only proved our point - that the govt is exposing us to extreme danger in total secret, without the knowledge or consent of the people.\r\n\tMy point is that what you are suggesting is great as a symbolic gesture, but will probably not prevent any actual transfer of nuclear waste. And keep in mind that disrupting traffic alienates many potential supporters. I hope we can keep working on this, though.","author":"Stephanie","parent_id":17729,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2002-07-14 07:37:27","modified":"2002-07-14 07:37:27","fileurl":""}]}
