The protest is in support of workers at the supermarket who have been struggling for months to organize into a union, the Immigrant Workers Union (IWU). Following a union election, which took place on March 9 that ended in a virtual tie, many Korean and Latino workers have faced alleged harassment and

discrimination for their pro-union activities. Management has even gone as far as firing a Pro-Union Worker. In response, the workers have filed Unfair Labor Practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board. They will also be taking to the streets to protest the unfair treatment by the Assi Management. The fight at Assi is one being watched closely by Korean markets across the city, where about a half-dozen Korean American families own all of the large stores.

<\/p>\n","contact":"","link":"","address":"","phone":"","parent_id":0,"mime_type":"text\/plain","summary":"Support rally Saturday","numcomment":0,"fileurl":"\/uploads\/2002\/05\/korean_and.txt","filesize":"4.8 kibibytes","article_url":"\/news\/2002\/05\/16681.php"},"attachments":[],"comments":[]}
