It is always\r\none of great importance to the people and concentrates in many ways their\r\ngravest concerns as well as their most courageous resistance. This year, we\r\nhave chosen to make our music, poetry and art against the war now being waged\r\nin our name around the world and at home. ArtSpeaks 2002 is the first major\r\nconcert against the war. ArtSpeaks 2002 is our fifth concert and may be our\r\nmost important yet.\r\n\r\nWe are told that this is a war with no end and no boundaries. We are expected\r\nto support the rounding up of thousands because of their nationality or\r\nreligious beliefs. We are expected to go along with the silencing of those\r\nwho dissent. And in every corner of society, blind patriotism justifies the\r\nrapid growth of the politics of intolerance, cruelty and punishment. They are\r\nstealing the very air that we breathe. ArtSpeaks is about changing the\r\natmosphere.\r\n\r\nOur artistic collaboration creates a whole different vision. As the late\r\ngreat jazz pianist Horace Tapscott put it, in times of great social upheaval\r\nand change art is \"ammunition for the head\" - it tears down boundaries of\r\nwhat is thinkable, it clears new pathways, poses profound questions, and\r\ncarves out critical space in a society in desperate need of change.\r\n\r\nPlease join us.\r\n\r\n\r\n<\/p>\n","contact":"","link":"www.artistsnetwork.org","address":"","phone":"323-860-9992","parent_id":0,"mime_type":"text\/html","summary":"The Artists Network and KPFK present the firwst major anit-war concert","numcomment":0,"fileurl":"\/uploads\/2002\/05\/updated_media_release.htm","filesize":"3.4 kibibytes","article_url":"\/news\/2002\/05\/16557.php"},"attachments":[],"comments":[]}
