Massive May Day March in LA

This evening an estimated 10,000 marched for immigrant rights and international working class solidarity in Downtown Los Angeles.

The marchers convened at the corner of Broadway and Olympic Blvd. Contingents poured in from all directions. The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) donned their signature purple and yellow t-shirts. Other groups had shirts designed especially for the occasion calling for justice for immigrants and a halt to indiscriminant harrassment of the undocumented. There were students from UCLA marching in solidarity with campus employess, and groups from many of the diverse immigrant communities in the southland. Some had come from San Diego and as far away as Oregon to march in the demonstration and to attend a large conference that will take place this week.

The vast sea of protesters were spirited and orderly. They carried beautiful banners and signs; and shouted out for solidarity, peace and justice as they made their way to the federal building approximately two miles away.
