The messages continued regularly until I disconnected from my ISP.\r\n\r\nA series of UDP packets to ports in the range of 33434-33600 usually means a traceroute. Weird.\r\n\r\nSo, I decided to see what I could find out about whose site it is. A WHOIS on the domain name turns up a registration containing oddly contradictory information. The administrative contact shows an address on N. B St. in LA; this address does exist but the ZIP code shown is actually in Covina, and the phone area code is in the SFV.\r\n\r\nSo, either this site is run by someone even more paranoid than Majdur- paranoid enough to automatically do traceroutes back to everyone who accesses the page and to feel it necessary to munge the contact info in their domain name registration, \r\n\r\nOr there's something else going on. I'd advise caution unless we see a good explanation of these weirdnesses.","author":"Sam Spade","parent_id":13756,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2001-12-23 01:43:38","modified":"2001-12-23 02:00:02","fileurl":""},{"id":13764,"heading":"site","article":"We don't put our real name and address on the internic registration. The site automaticly logs them, that way I can see how extensivly they are monitering the web site. It's simply for security. I have had and am still having the same problem. I suspect there is concerted interference. The reason is that I had the same firewall blocking problem above described when I tried to log onto raise the fist. I really want to but am blocked from accessing the site laanarchists.org. I had to go to google.com and look up a cached version of raise the fist which is about a month or so old (with no updates or recent info as of last week or so).\r\n\r\nCan you please give me any recomendation regarding how I can access these sites. When I tried to go on to the next page it went through the same routine- UDP pings on ports 33474 to 33524.\r\n\r\nIt turns out that laanarchists.org and raisethefist.com have the same IP address. They're obviously hosted on the same server.\r\n\r\nThis is lame. If, as the comment above says, they want to know how often the gummint is reading their site, all they should need is the IP info in the incoming page requests. Automatically tracerouting every incoming request seems like overkill.\r\n\r\nI, for one, don't want to bother with a site that in the name of security would make me take my own security down to read it, or which wastes my time with a firewall window popping up every couple of seconds.\r\n\r\nIf you're going to put up a Web site for the public to read, it doesn't pay to make it so hostile.","author":"Sam Spade","parent_id":13756,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2001-12-23 17:05:50","modified":"2001-12-23 18:00:03","fileurl":""},{"id":13771,"heading":"Yeah","article":"I have to agree. But i'm not sure what you're talking about, \"being tracerouted\" ... I run the site, and the servers themselves. When you hit the front page, the only thing it does is an NSLOOKUP on your IP address. That's all. It doesn't go through a traceroute. The reason for this is security. And believe me, I need it. At points I have had over 100 hits from the U.S Department of Defense in only A SINGLE DAY. The U.S DOD continuesly moniteres the site extensivly, along with the FBI, police and SSA. Every day. Not only that, but international governments; Egypt, Canada, UK, Lavtia, Belgium, Astralia, and now Finland's department of defense are monitering the site continuesly. Not only has the site caused me to have my phone's tapped, but also my DSL packeted by the FBI. Not just that either. The FBI also recently seized a few internet accounts of mine, one being my AIM account which was seized for 12 days. Then terminated.\r\n\r\nSo you can see why it's necessary that I log, track, and database every single government agencie that comes into raisethefist.com. (or any other domain on my server). If they are going to continuesly watch us, then why arn't we watching them? Why arn't we building our own databases on them? Why arn't we tracking THEM?? If you believe that security is indeed essential in this movement, then i'd think you'd do the same thing I am doing with your web sites. This isn't about anything but being realistic and knowing your history. I hear the word \"revolution\" tossed around as loosely as it's scarled on a t-shirt in a mall. With no means of self-defense\/self-security. Revolution is an act of self-respect, self-determination, and self-defense. Revolution is illegal. You can't sit back and wait for unclesam to come kicking down you're door. You have to be concious of his moves, just as he stay's concious of yours.\r\n\r\nIf you want to see the logs from government agencies on the site, feel free to check out this file which updates frequently: http:\/\/www.raisethefist.com\/mil.txt \r\n\r\nIf I were to stop tracking government agencies on the site, then I'd have to discontinue from running it. Again, I don't know where you're getting UDP pings from. The server only does an NS lookup from your IP. The pings could be happening when the server is finding authority NS servers... ? Not sure, but there arn't any traceroutes being executed.\r\n\r\nIf you want, I can give you a copy of the tracking script so you can take a look at it yourself.\r\n\r\nAnd the music in the front page isn't annoying!! It's cool :) Everyone tells me they like it. :-D","author":"laac","parent_id":13756,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2001-12-24 10:55:23","modified":"2001-12-24 11:56:56","fileurl":""},{"id":13784,"heading":"Trace Route From where?","article":"Assuming it's true that all of these agencies are acting on the server as described, doesn't it stand to reason that they use the technology to trace any activity TO the site as well as just ON the site? Several people have told me this .. When accessing the server from remote destonations, i've noticed that at times it's not accessable. I don't think this has anything to do with the server. It's something wrong with the DNS servers. I have to traceroute my connection to find the problem. This happens continuesly for some reason. Somtimes it's like only a handfull of people can't connect, other times it's like almost everyone can't connect.\r\n\r\nAlso, yes, doing DNS lookups on IP's shouldn't result in those ping floods. Which is weird. Do you have a log of the ping floods? I'm not sure why you're getting them. However, as I stated above, our DSL line has been getting packeted by the FBI. (no joke). Basicly they've been intercepting all data comming in and out of the internet line. Whether or not they are STILL doing this, I don't know. They can do whatever they want basicly. I wouldn't doubt that they've been doing the same thing to this very site as well. If they show such interest in my web site, i'm sure they wouldn't hesitate to try and log anyone who connects into it as well. I wouldn't doubt that they do this with many other radical web sites also.\r\n\r\nThe 2-cool productions doesn't host our server. I host our servers. I'm simply hosting 2-cool productions web site on our servers. I run the network here. So I basicly have full control over it.
