The lyricists frequently describe themselves within an oppressed context, and speak to others so bound.\r\n\r\nToday, there is not a more powerful, direct text of popular African-American liberation than rap music. Often, the graphic nature of the lyrics and stories incite cries of sensationalism. That rap artists portray a bleak world, or even an offensive one, should come as no surprise to anyone who has been to Compton, or America's other blighted urban districts. The feeling the music imparts is an telling reflection of the neighborhood - vulgar, dirty, \"obscene,\" with a sort of underlying funk to it all - in both the positive and negative senses of the word.\r\n\r\nClick the link for more....\r\n","author":"link poster","parent_id":12714,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2001-11-08 03:58:58","modified":"2001-11-08 04:11:33","fileurl":""},{"id":12742,"heading":"El Vez, Revolutionist","article":"Enjoy this article about El Vez.","author":"not el vez","parent_id":12714,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2001-11-08 04:11:32","modified":"2001-11-08 05:00:01","fileurl":""},{"id":12746,"heading":"Crusty ole Mr Zimmerman's anti-MIC classic","article":"I recently saw Bob Dylan play a concert and it was stunning.
