If Congress refuses to open the appropriate Inquiries then it's up to the US People to hold a Constitutional Convention to form a Congress representing the US people. In line with the 50 million US voters who elected Al Gore as US President in 2000 with a 500,000 plus majority including a majority of Florida voters, an international Gallup poll from September 21, 2001 registered 46% of US people were opposed to military action or in the undecided catagory.\r\n\r\nPolling revealed that 32 of 35 of the world's people are opposed to military attack - in favor of extradition to stand trial. Israel, India and the US are the exceptions.  Anti-war sentiments are at 80-90% in Europe and Latin America. People have expressed misgivings for a military solutions at home and abroad.\r\n\r\nBeyond adding embassy security 50 days ago, the US State Department was ignored by the US Executive branch of Government. Congressional Investigations would be able to conclude if: \r\n\r\n1) US intelligence used the alert to hatch a copy-cat version of the warned attacks using no foreign nationals in order to justify toppling the Taleban and massive military retaliation against all terrorists including political opposition and dissent; or 2) US intelligence with foreknowledge did nothing and in effect sanctioned the actions on September 11, 2001; or 3) US intelligence with foreknowledge did nothing since there were too many other plots which the CIA was monitoring; or 4) any other finding of guilt or innocence of the US Executive Branch of government. \r\n\r\nHere's the original Herald article: http:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/news\/0107\/20\/world\/world6.html \r\n\r\n----- \r\nUS alert: Coded Message Reveals Bin Laden Terror Plot (english) \r\nby Mark Riley 8:47pm Mon Jul 23 '01 \r\n\r\nThe United States is expecting a terrorist attack orchestrated by the Saudi extremist Osama bin Laden soon,..... \r\n\"In the past such individuals have not distinguished between official and civilian targets,\" the State Department said. \r\n\r\nUS alert: coded message reveals bin Laden terror plot \r\n\r\nBy Mark Riley, Herald Correspondent in New York \r\n\r\nThe United States is expecting a terrorist attack orchestrated by the Saudi extremist Osama bin Laden soon, and has placed its forces in the Middle East on the highest level of alert. \r\n\r\nState Department officials said intelligence services had intercepted a coded message to one of bin Laden's senior operatives outlining plans for the \r\nattack. \r\n\r\nThe suspected target was in either Saudi Arabia or Kuwait, the officials said. \r\n\r\nThey described the intelligence as highly credible and instantly issued the warning through military and diplomatic channels. \r\n\r\nThe State Department has had all its embassies on a heightened level of alert since late May, when four of bin Laden's followers were convicted in a New York court over the 1998 bombings of two US embassies in Africa. \r\n\r\nIntelligence services have been expecting a reprisal attack since the verdict and believe on the basis of the intercepted message that one is now imminent. \r\n\r\nThe message was being sent to a bin Laden associate known to be involved in a radical cell of terrorists operating on the Arabian Peninsula. \r\n\r\n\"In the past such individuals have not distinguished between official and civilian targets,\" the State Department said. \r\n\r\n\"As always, we take this information seriously. US government facilities remain at a heightened state of alert. American citizens in the region are urged to remain vigilant with regard to their personal security and to exercise caution.\" \r\n\r\nGovernment officials said their public warning was in line with US policy, which dictates that US citizens be told if there is credible evidence of a possible terrorist attack. \r\n\r\nBin Laden remains at large but has been indicted by the US Federal Court for his role in masterminding the simultaneous 1998 attacks on the US embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Several of his followers, apart from the four convicted men, have also been indicted and are being sought by international intelligence services. \r\n\r\nThe US launched a series of missile attacks on bin Laden's reputed training sites in Afghanistan and on a Sudanese pharmaceutical company suspected of making chemical weapons. \r\n\r\nBin Laden is believed to be hiding in Afghanistan with the sanction of the Taliban Government. \r\n\r\nHe rose to prominence as a soldier with the US-supported mujahideen guerilla fighters in Afghanistan's war against the Soviet Union in the 1980s, then pursued lucrative business dealings in Saudi Arabia and became a leading campaigner against US influence. \r\n\r\nThe exiled financier is suspected of masterminding a series of terrorist attacks in recent years, including the suicide bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen in October that killed 17 sailors. \r\n------","author":"Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness","parent_id":11013,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2001-10-01 03:55:30","modified":"2001-10-01 04:11:37","fileurl":""}]}
