Jesse Jackson and actor-activist Danny Glover \r\nhave spoken up and out strongly demanding that the\r\nPacifica Network broadcast uncensored DN broadasts.\r\n \r\n(note: Pacifica Radio is continuing to play reruns of \r\nwonderful old programs, but is NOT running currently-\r\nproduced DN materials. Fortunately, you can now here\r\nDN IN EXILE programs through outlets such as KPFA,\r\nWBIX and Webactive.\r\n \r\nWashington's withdrawal from the Durban gathering,\r\nwas followed by that of Israel and much of the media's \r\nattention. Cuba's Granma, however, detailed the views\r\nof many Black participants from the US. Behind the US\r\nwithdrawal from Durban is not the Middle East and the\r\nZionism resolution, but rather the discussion of slavery\r\nand reparations for its victims. \r\nhttp:\/\/www.granma.cu\/ingles\/septiem1\/36repara-i.html\r\n=========================================\r\n \r\nACTIVISTS IN LA TO SUPPORT CUBAN MUSICIANS\r\nActivists, Cuban-Americans and artists in Los Angeles\r\nannounced their support for Cuban musicians who will\r\nbe attending the Latin Grammys, in a broadly-attended\r\nnews conference. However, \r\nI can the reviewer is trying to suggest that the more \r\nmodern Cuban artists have moved away from \"heroic\" \r\nphotographic style of Korda and Salas, etc. This is \r\nactually true, as the SHIFTING TIDES exhibition \r\ndemonstrates. But there is more to this than artistic\r\ncommentary in an abstract, \"art-for-art's sake\" way...\r\n \r\nThis reviewer suggests that the \"heroic\" photos by \r\nKorda and others did more than excercise artistic\r\nchoice, but rather that the images were manipulated.\r\n \r\nKeep these in mind when reading the review. This is\r\nsuggested further in a book referenced in the review,\r\nwhich appears to be the catalog of a show of Cuban\r\nart by contemporary artists on the island. The catalog\r\nsuggests the art is politically critical, tha wasn't clear\r\nto me when I saw the program...\r\nhttp:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2001\/09\/07\/arts\/design\/07COTT.html?searchpv=nytToday&pagewanted=all\r\n \r\n========================================\r\nORTEGA RUNNING STRONGLY IN NICARAGUA\r\nPolls show the FSLN's leader running ahead due to the\r\nwidespread corruption in Nicaragua since the defeat of\r\nthe FSLN in 1990.
