I suppose it's possible, but, given the preponderance of evidence combined with analyses that outline a US foreign policy that's antagonistic to peace, I find it hard to believe that it was an inside job.\r\n\r\nThe beauty of paranoia is it's consistency.  The effect of everything is always an attack against the paranoid individual, large events are reduced to involve the smallest possible number of people.\r\n\r\nIt's never the thousands in the mobs, but the dozens in the secret rooms, that change history.  And it's individuals, not the dozens that make the decisions.  Get rid of that person, and the world will be safe.  That's nice and neat.\r\n\r\nSorry.  That's not real.  Reality is: everyone counts.","author":"grunty","parent_id":10763,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2001-09-26 05:46:51","modified":"2001-09-26 06:00:02","fileurl":""},{"id":10793,"heading":"alternate theory - it's in the water","article":"Thanks for the above comment.  It was a breath of fresh air.  I know the conspiracy theorists like to often start with motive, then construct a series of events in a backward fashion to make sense of the given events, perverse sense, but perhaps enough sense for their needs.  For this reason I wonder if sometimes conspiracy theorists are not unlike a large number of Americans - each of them struggling to make sense of this horrible tragedy - each equally ill equipped.  This might also help explain why that garbage we hear spewing from the mainstream media is so easily consumed by a gullible public, we need to believe in something, our foundation has been shattered.\r\n\r\nBut what I don't understand is this: if we are searching for a 'motive' that might explain recent events, what is so hard about believing that someone, somewhere, really felt a need to vilify those big, bad capitalists?  I mean the US has been instrumental in mandating capitalism around the world, is the worlds largest arms dealer, uses those arms liberally wherever it sees fit, it accountable to no one let alone the world court, and is often identified as the lone super-power left to blame for everything that goes wrong.  What is so hard about believing the US made a few enemies along the way?  Remember collateral damage?  Remember Madeline Allbright?  Remember the overthrow of Allende, Lumumba, etc.?  Remember Bay of Pigs?  Sure we collected a few enemies.  Perhaps more than our fair share.  Does the idea that any one of these enemies could have planned this event require such a great leap of logic that absurd conspiracy theories look far more attractive in comparison?\r\n\r\nI'm not a big fan of working backward from motive to determine who is behind the horrible events, but it seems if we did the list of suspects would be huge.  If one were paranoid one could blame any number of groups to satisfy their fear - the CIA, the Jews, the A-rabs.  Why there is no end to where this paranoia can take us.  We may even start talking about preparing for war even though we aren't sure yet where we might send the troops, or once we decide that, who they gonna fight.  Why, with lots of paranoia these trifling details could all be figured out later.  With enough paranoia maybe even we'd be willing to kill thousands upon thousands of innocent Afghanis in the hopes that this would finally satisfy our fear.\r\n\r\nMaybe it's something in the water?\r\n","author":"money talks","parent_id":10763,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2001-09-26 09:05:02","modified":"2001-09-26 09:23:43","fileurl":""}]}
