A broad-based\t\r\npeace and justice movement has begun to take shape, even as polls show a\t\r\nmajority of Americans to support the idea of violent counterattacks. Public\t\r\nopinion has been profoundly shaped by the priorities of the corporate media,\t\r\nwhich have focused overwhelmingly on public anger and on discussions of war\t\r\npreparations, revenge and the search for the terrorists.
\t\r\n
\t\r\nThere are reports of Muslims (and Americans of Middle Eastern or South\t\r\nAsian heritage) being harassed and attacked throughout the United States.\t\r\nActivists and politicians around the world call for reasoned responses.
\t\r\n
\t\r\n--------------------------------------------------------------------
\t\r\n
\t\r\n1. MEDIA CRITICISM
\t\r\n
\t\r\nCoverage in corporate media has largely reiterated official government\t\r\nvoices, and has encouraged fear, racism, scapegoating and war. But some\t\r\ncoverage has gone further, investigating the root causes of enmity towards\t\r\nthe United States in other parts of the world. Independent media critics,\t\r\ncitizens and communities are critiquing the coverage and demonstrating the\t\r\npower of close observation, memory and analysis.
\t\r\n
\t\r\nMEDIA ANALYSIS OF INTERNET COVERAGE
\t\r\n http:\/\/seattle.indymedia.org\/front.php3?article_id=6815

\t\r\n
\t\r\nANALYSIS OF EARLY MEDIA COVERAGE
\t\r\nby christopher mitchell
\t\r\n http:\/\/indymedia.org\/front.php3?article_id=62731

\t\r\nMEDIA MARCHES TO WAR - A COMPILATION
\t\r\nby Neil daMause
\t\r\n http:\/\/nyc.indymedia.org\/front.php3?article_id=11073&group=webcast

\t\r\n
\t\r\nTHE MEDIA GOES TO WAR
\t\r\nRobert McChesney interviewed by John Tarleton and Mary Ann Thompson. \"It's\r\nmoments like these that press coverage is almost always the worst.\"
\t\r\n http:\/\/www.nyc.indymedia.org\/front.php3?article_id=10031

\t\r\n
\t\r\nMEDIA OUTCASTS SPEAK UP
\t\r\nby Matt Parish
\t\r\nAs it is important for the nation to join together in the wake of this \t\r\nweek's events, it is even more\t\r\nimportant for this nation's media to report the days' events as carefully\t\r\nas possible, casting a\t\r\ndiscerning eye on all reports, breaking news, and talking heads.
\t\r\n http:\/\/boston.indymedia.org\/front.php3?article_id=3232&group=

\t\r\n
\t\r\nRACISM IN REPORTING, JINGOISM AS FOREIGN POLICY
\t\r\nby Kristen Schurr
\t\r\n http:\/\/www.indymedia.org\/front.php3?article_id=64792

\t\r\n
\t\r\nAMERICA UNDER ATTACK: Guilty Or Not, Here We Come
\t\r\nby Danny Schechter
\t\r\n http:\/\/www.zmag.org\/schechcalam.htm

\t\r\n
\t\r\nREMEMBERING THE LAST U.S. RETALIATION AGAINST TERROR
\t\r\nby Jeff Cohen, Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting
\t\r\nFAIR's definitive review of the 1998 retaliatory bombing of Afghanistan and
\t\r\nSudan.
\t\r\n http:\/\/seattle.indymedia.org\/front.php3?article_id=6935

\t\r\n
\t\r\nSTUPID AND SELF-SERVING MEDIA REPORTS
\t\r\nby Otto Hinckelmann
\t\r\n http:\/\/www.nyc.indymedia.org\/front.php3?article_id=10350

\t\r\n
\t\r\nTHE MEDIA ARE AMERICAN
\t\r\nby Fadi Chahine, Executive Editor: Middle East News Online
\t\r\n http:\/\/www.middleeastwire.com\/newswire\/stories\/20010822_meno.shtml

\t\r\nBIG MEDIA, BIG OIL
\t\r\nOil Company board members also sit on boards of U.S. media conglomerates\t\r\nwhose gatekeepers censor voices of U.S. anti-war activists.
\t\r\n http:\/\/nyc.indymedia.org\/front.php3?article_id=10650

\t\r\nNBC USING PROPAGANDA AGAINST PROTEST MOVEMENT
\t\r\n http:\/\/www.indymedia.org\/front.php3?article_id=64891&group=webcast

\t\r\n
\t\r\nTUNING IN FOR THE REAL STORY
\t\r\nby Paul O'Connor of the Guardian UK
\t\r\n http:\/\/seattle.indymedia.org\/front.php3?article_id=7005&group=webcast

\t\r\n
\t\r\n
\t\r\n--------------------------------------------------------------------
\t\r\n
\t\r\n6.
