October 22nd is the national day of protest against police brutality, and in light of the recent police state in Long Beach, it is absolutely necessary that the largest Oct 22nd protest in the country be held there.  Contact <a href=\"mailto:orangebloc@hotmail.com\" rel=\"nofollow\">orangebloc@hotmail.com<\/a> for more information.  We are looking for sponsors and people\/groups who can contribute monetarily.  We also are looking for local organizers.  If you can even bring 5 people to this event, contact us, and let us know.  We will network and organize with you.   <br>  <br> This demonstration needs to be HUGE.  We are planning on having over 10,000 people present, so get your people to come.<\/p>\n","contact":"orangebloc@hotmail.com","link":"","address":"","phone":"","parent_id":0,"mime_type":"text\/plain","summary":"Organizing for October 22nd","numcomment":3,"fileurl":"\/uploads\/","filesize":null,"article_url":"\/news\/2001\/05\/6735.php"},"attachments":[],"comments":[{"id":6747,"heading":"hook up with the coalition","article":"I feel you on the the recent brutality expressed by the Long Beach pigs. While I do believe that we need to expose them as the brutal pigs that they are, I also think it might be a good idea to get in contact with the October 22nd coalition before decided to organize the march in a different location. Part of the unity of the coalition is to unite with the families of victims of police murder. This is extremely important to the cause and would not be an O22 march without them. Check out their website, get in contact with the coalition, and try to attend a few meetings.\r\n\r\nIn solidarity,\r\n\r\ncriminalized","author":"criminalized","parent_id":6735,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2001-05-14 21:57:37","modified":"2001-05-14 22:24:36","fileurl":""},{"id":6748,"heading":"October 22 Coalition","article":"Last year there was a large Octoer 22 Coalition demo in LA with about 1000 people, and there was one in Anaheim organized by several different community organizations with about 100 people.  My own opinion is that it is important to work with the October 22 Coalition, not necessarially on planning the demo, but on networking and stuff like that.  \r\nthe October 22 Coalition has the connections to inform and draw many people.  However it is also important to demonstrate police violence in the communities where it happens.  If the  October 22 Coalition is working on another location, why not plan a demo in conjuction with O22 for another date?  By the time O22 comes around, many who weren't at LB on May Day may have forgotten what happened.  Why not plan something sooner when outrage is at its height?","author":"LB Resident","parent_id":6735,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2001-05-14 22:24:36","modified":"2001-05-14 23:00:02","fileurl":""},{"id":6764,"heading":"anarchist,green,liberal,red unity on the St.","article":"\r\nSan Diego Anarchist Block,\r\n\r\n  I think this event shows the need for strategy. When we are all by ourselves in a march, we are easily vulnerable to police riots, but when we are part of a mass mobilization there's more security. In DC I'm sure you've all heard that the cops cut off about 100 black blockers and it looked like they were all gonna be arrested, possibly attacked. But then a huge contingent of liberal protesters coalesced in on the scene and the police backed off knowing that it wouldn't be so easy to get their hard ons beating people. And visa versa. It seems like the anarchist blocks have gained some respect from other protesters cause they see it as protection from the police goons. So what I'm saying is its time to build bridges on some level even with people that we are not entirely agreed with philosophically. When there is only 100 of us its best to take the sidewalks. When there is 10,000 lets take the streets. When there are 1,000,000 of us maybe its time for a revolution in the city. Not recognizing where we are at any given time strength wise could be fatal.\r\n\r\nmy .02 cents, and hope things are getting better.\r\n\r\nJames","author":"James","parent_id":6735,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2001-05-15 17:15:04","modified":"2001-05-15 17:45:11","fileurl":""}]}
