It’s called writer’s block. Strangely enough, although I had lots of ideas, the vast majority of them went into the “write this sometime soon” chute. After all, it was only the opening ceremonies to the convention… and not much really happened.

Still, I felt the desire to write something, and as I was settling off to sleep, this little ditty started to appear in the back of my mind. Therefore, for your giggling pleasure (and so I can get to sleep!), I present you with this little story.]

Twas the night before Convention,

And all through the town

Not a creature was stirring

(But the Secret Service were still around.)

And I, with my notes in hand,

And Gary, with his stuff,

Settled down outside the Staples Center,

And decided we were tired enough.

The Center was decked out in all of its glory

With signs about Democrats, wonderful and Gore-y.

Still, up on the roof, there was such a clatter

That I sprang from the curb to see what was the matter.

And who, with a thud and a crash, should appear

But Clinton and his wife, and a few strange-looking deer.

I suppose it’s better for him to arrive this way,

Especially since helicopters cost so much in this day.

“On Finance, on Tax Cut, on Democrats and Gore!

Whoa Protest, whoa Mumia, whoa all you and more!

We’re here now, you beasts, it’s time to relax,

We’re going to collect some money and sit back.”

With a twinkle in his eye, and a spring in his step,

Clinton jumped from the sled (hey, who wrote all this crap?)

Hillary followed, and they entered the silent location

Which soon would host countless delegations.

So we shrugged and we sat down – it was Clinton, after all,

And it’s not his time to be the best boy in the hall.

So we went back to our notes, and our scribbled-on stuff,

Tossing out the things that weren’t up to snuff.

So I wrote this little ditty, just because it was so cute,

And the other stuff I wrote went into the recycling chute.

But, before I sign my name to this, and ride on out of sight,

Happy Convention to you all, and may you have enough to write!<\/p>\n","contact":"editor@ocbtracker","link":"http:\/\/www.ocbtracker.com","address":"657 E Arrow Hwy #M, Glendora, CA 91740","phone":"(626) 914-0306","parent_id":0,"mime_type":"text\/plain","summary":"Tired reporter's poem on the convention, funny.","numcomment":0,"fileurl":"\/uploads\/","filesize":null,"article_url":"\/news\/2000\/08\/845.php"},"attachments":[],"comments":[]}
