We demand that KPFK recommit itself to its own mission

statement to become a truly independent, alternative media outlet

accessible to all communities in Los Angeles.

Be it further resolved that the IMC-LA will not share space, equipment,

programming, analysts or recorded sound unless and until KPFK

A. Renounces the gag rule.

B. The station establishes mechanisms for meaningful participation of

stakeholders (subscribers, volunteers, etc.) in decision-making

processes.

C. Agrees to cease retaliation against staff and volunteer who speak out

on

aspects of the current crisis

D. Withdraw its demand that all volunteer work produced at the station

become the sole property of KPFK, as specified in the Y2K Compliant

Agreement.

This is not to be interpreted to mean that KPFK volunteers cannot

participate in the IMC.

RESOLUTION

IMC (Independent Media Center)

Denies Press Credentials To

Pacifica Network News (PNN) Reporters and Staff

The consensus of IMC members is that the IMC will not credential PNN

reporters nor freelance reporters nor any person who attempts to file for

PNN, nor give interviews to PNN, nor allow PNN to use material created by

the IMC.

The \"reassignment\" of PNN News Director Dan Coughlin has caused much

controversy. PNN has compromised its journalistic integrity by acts of

censorship. There is an ongoing strike by Pacifica stringers and

freelancers, and we need to be in solidarity with them.

Since the crisis last spring, when armed guards were called in to lock out

staff at KPFA, Pacifica reporters say management has subjected

journalists,

contributors and independent producers to repeated acts of alteration,

suppression and censorship of news stories and public-affairs programming,

which they say are of vital interest to the listeners of Pacifica and the

broader communities it serves.

Furthermore, since the IMC strives to combat censorship and corporate

control of the media, and Pacifica management has failed to address our

concerns regarding these issues, there are some who consider contributing

to Pacifica Network News in any way to be incompatible with their

journalistic ethos.

The Pacifica stringers strike has received endorsements from the

\"Democracy

Now\" AFTRA Bargaining Unit (David Love), Aileen Alfandary (KPFA News

Co-Director), WBAI\/UE Local 404, Pacifica Affiliates KCSB (which has

suspended PNN broadcasts) and KFCF, L.A. However, I think that it might be worthwhile for IMC to explain the events that lead to this resolution, because I would bet y'all that most folks who are reading it have no idea why it was issued. Without such explanations, resolutions like this come across as \"we know the score,\" without taking the time to educate your audience, regardless of how many respected leftists and journalists have signed off on it. \r\n\r\nThe illness which besieges the Pacifica network has a lot to teach progressives about how not to let their own media apparatus turn into a bad facsimsile of that which it was set up to be an alternative to. While the IMC is doing a great service in helping network the new left, that doesn't mean it shouldn't have to take the time to back up its criticisms of other organizations, irrespective of how patently screwed up they are to those in the know. \r\n\r\nBest, Joel\r\n\r\nJoel Schalit\r\nAssociate Editor\r\nPunk Planet Magazine\r\nwww.punkplanet.com","author":"Joel Schalit","parent_id":717,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2000-08-14 16:47:39","modified":"2000-08-14 16:58:49","fileurl":""},{"id":725,"heading":"Excellent!","article":"Strong. The views of the father were that he should not have been obligated to follow any such programs without any reasonable and probable grounds that he had abused anyone mentally, physically or psychologically. \r\n\r\nThe Court of the Queen's Bench - The child's father then represented himself in Court for the purpose of regaining custody of his child but the Courts placed the child in a foster home for a period of four month with conditions that he follow anger management. Notwithstanding that there are no laws that give jurisdiction to the Courts on imposing conditions to a custody order of a child, the Courts imposed the conditions on the custody order regardless that there was no laws that allowed it. \r\n\r\nThe Court of Appeal - January 18, 2000. The father continued to represent himself in Court because the lawyers he would seek advise from would only inform him that he was \"obligated\" to follow an anger management program. On January 18, 2000, the Court of Appeal set aside the custody order and a new hearing was ordered. \r\n \r\n\r\nStill no Custody of Child - Even though the custody order was set aside and a new hearing was ordered by the Court of Appeal, the father of the child was not granted custody of his child pending the new trial. \r\n\r\nThe New Trial at the Court of Queen's Bench - October 2, 2000. At the hearing of the new trial ordered by the Court of Appeal on October 2, 2000, a decision was made by the Court of Queen's Bench that the father have no more contact whatsoever with his child because he did not want to follow an anger management program. \r\n\r\nCase Update - The father is currently at the Supreme Court level with his case and has made a Communication to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for the purposes of regaining custody of his child and being awarded compensation for the emotional suffering and psychological damages to his child as well as himself which resulted from the apprehension and detention of his child. \r\n\r\nThe father has made a detailed website in his own words explaining the events which unfolded and led to the apprehension and detention of his child, emotional suffering, psychological damages and cruel inhuman degrading treatment and punishment.
