Yet in the United States, many U.S. dissidents have tended, perhaps, to avoid challenging the Corporate Media's moral right to censor the news and deny U.S. activists their free speech rights by focusing most of their energy on establishing yet another redundant \"alternative media project\" which lacks the distribution required to be an effective tool for liberation. When enough Movement activists are willing tomill-in in by the thousands inside and outside the Corporate Media studies, however, it might be difficult for the international media to ignore our protests. Perhaps a good slogan to use at some point might be \"Seize their tv, then speak freely.\" or \"The media belongs to the people.\"\r\n\r\nbob","author":"bob feldman","parent_id":358,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2000-05-10 19:06:39","modified":"2019-10-28 23:12:27","fileurl":""},{"id":361,"heading":"Smart Tactic!","article":"This is definately a direction that anarchists and activists should move in for LA. The views of reality for most people are given to them mainly by mediums of mass information dissemination. These things include TV, radio, magazines, newspapers, and advertisements within and outside of all of those mediums. \r\n\r\nTo ignore the tremendous power they have in shaping reality on the mass public mind is fatal at this point. Perhaps 30 years ago it was not as big of a problem, nor 10-30 years before that. I think the problem now is horrendous and it seriously needs to be confronted. \r\n\r\nI'm thinking of something bigger, like paying attention more to media based conferences and such. I know there is going to be a protest at the NAB (\"Media Democracy Now!\"), so perhaps that will be the start of the anti-corporate-state media movement. \r\n\r\nWe have a civil rights and social justice movement (the prison industrial complex and death penlty being hot topics),\r\n\r\nGlobal tade and economic issues (WTO, IMF, World Bank), \r\n\r\nUnfair labor practices (Anti-Sweatshop movement), \r\n\r\nAnti-Genetic engineering movement\r\n\r\nMovement confronting our ruling parties, \r\n\r\nHopefully a movement confronting the mainstream media, \r\n\r\nAnd most likely a revival of an anti-war movement due to the strong push by both Republicans and Democrats for the \"National Defense System.\"\r\n\r\nThere may also be a backlash against the increase in mass surveillance...I certainly hope \r\n\r\nI hope all of these flourish and continue to depend and relate with each other.
