KPFK SECRECY, TURMOILS, CONFLICTS, OPAQUENESS, and HYPOCRISY too ? (tags)

KPFK is apparently again experiencing changes with inside-hidden-competitions. turmoil, factionalizing conflicts and has denied it’s stakeholders and paying Public Members and Sponsors any participation or even being informed of “what is going on there ?” The most recent LSB board meeting was very unusually filled with KPFK programmers, some staff, and many public members present, speaking to problems that most members did not have any information about and could not obtain. Twice during that long 5 hr meeting, public comment time was used to directly ASK all in the room to clarify, state, explain to ‘the rest of us’ what was occurring and yet there was NO DIRECT HONEST INFORMATION given openly by anyone in the room to those ‘not in the know’. Five hours of maneuvering, conflicts, discussions and yet not one honest response to the question “what is happening inside KPFK ?” that brought out so many people to speak in behalf of staff or complain about staff or promote their own personal issues and causes. The Problem was never revealed nor stated. How could this be ? at Our Radio Station ?

KPFK: self-destructing? or is it again the usual dysfunctioning? (tags)

Recent comments have been heard : that the Pacifica National Board may want to replace current management/ staff without Informing, or Getting Input from the Shareholders who ‘own’ + pay + sustain the station. What details are kept secret, and the usual silence on-air gags all conversation, or any sharing of what is actually happening ? Contrary to claims of ‘open communications’ it is still only a 1-way communication coming from inside KPFK to us out here - and nothing allowed to exit from the hallowed station-office halls to the Paying Public - the one that keeps the station afloat. Why ? What maneuvers could be happening ? When will the Shareholders find out [oh, is it already too late ?] to participate in this upheaval or learn of the intentions to make major personnel changes at KPFK ? huh ?

In the lead up to the national elections of 2008 both parties rattled off their lists of things they would do differently. They told us how they would act regarding the dual wars middle class Americans have been forced to pay for ? even more so than the large corporations benefitting from the wars. They told us how they would reverse the problems caused by the sub-prime mortgage scam that caused the two bailouts of Wall Street. They told us how our civil liberties would be brought back to a place that made sense. They told us how sweeping changes Americans desired would be made reality.

Editorial: Iranian Expatriates in America – The New 'House Negroes' ? By Zahir Ebrahim (tags)

It is my earnest hope, as an ordinary justice activist at Project Humanbeingsfirst.org, that the Iranians living in America might head-on address this rapid percolation of 'Uncle Toms' among their own Diasporan peoples first, before trying to bring the white man's democracy to their beleaguered but beloved Iran. For, the Persians can no more deny this phenomenon among them than they can deny their own political and economic disaffection which is being diabolically harnessed to destroy them as a people, and as a civilization. Much like Iraq has been laid to waste! A civilization as rich and as wise as the Persians, one which has seen all the vicissitudes of power and its would-be conquerers – and outlived them all – does not need to carry the white man's burden. Nor does it need to seek out the white man's prescription to teach them self-governance.

Wall Street Under Obama: Bigger and Riskier (tags)

After the financial levees broke and the crumbling banks ushered in the economic crisis, angry people clamored for drastic change in the financial system. Obama reflected these feelings well, at times using radical rhetoric to denounce the banking titans. What he promised was deep regulatory change so that such a crisis “would never happen again.” Like every other promise of substance, Obama’s pledge to “rein in” the banks has fallen by the wayside; the well-timed rhetoric smoothed over public tensions and now business is back to usual. The New York Times remarks:

The Syrian Leader's Curious World (tags)

03/12/03 New York times President Bashar al-Assad of Syria understands that he no longer lives in his father's Middle East, where brutal repression at home, the refusal to deal with Israel and cozy relations with terrorist groups and rogue regimes were enough to ensure decades of unchallenged power. That much comes across in an interview with our colleague Neil MacFarquhar in The Times on Monday.
