Explosion Shuts TransCanada's Natural Gas 'Bison' Pipeline in Wyoming (tags)
The Bison Pipeline, transporting natural gas from Wyoming's Powder River Basin to North Dakota and the Midwest, has exploded 20 miles west of Gillette, Wyoming. The Bison Pipeline began operation in Jan, 2010 with capacity for 407 million cubic feet per day. This time everyone was lucky as nobody was close enough to be killed or injured. The explosion left a crater and a sent a piece of 40 foot long pipe section flying 70 feet away from the pipeline's original position, indicating that IF anyone was nearby they would not be so lucky!

El Paso corporation's rush to complete the Ruby Pipeline in northern Nevada resulted in a worker's fatality as safety procedures were skipped and work continued despite the frigid temps and icy surfaces. The time required to complete this project is being shortened by the corporate profit motive, and the human nature to make serious mistakes is increased as workers grow weary from long hours and colder temperatures.
9th Circuit Court Enables Ruby Pipeline Construction (tags)
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals denied the emergency request by Center for Biological Diversity to temporarily halt construction on the 670 mile Ruby Pipeline being constructed by El Paso corporation through four western states. Some of the Ruby Pipeline's future customers include BP, in a rush to regain their losses from the Gulf Oil Spill. This could be some of the reasons for skipping critical components of the public review process and purchasing verbal consent from two prominent environmental organizations, WWP and ONDA.
