On December 4, the Philippine Court released a verdict on the following four US Marine “visiting troops” charged with gang-raping a 22-year old Nicole and a fresh graduate from a Catholic University: Lance Corporals Daniel Smith (principal accused) was found guilty. Dominic Duplantis, Keith Silkwood and Staff Sergeant Chad Carpentier were pronuced not guilty. The latter three were reportedly at the scene cheering while the principal suspect was raping Nicole inside a cruising van at Subic Bay Freeport, which used to be part of the biggest US military naval base in the last Philippines, last Nov. 1, 2005.

In Baghdad, 20,000 Iraqis took to the central square and faced off against U.S. Marines patrolling the area. "USA, don't stay - GO!" and other signs calling on U.S. forces to withdraw were visible as Iraqis chanted against U.S. plans for Iraq. Canada's CBC reports that the protests are now in their fourth day. Witnesses in Baghdad say the number of demonstrators are growing.

On April 2nd, Al Jazeera news network reported that Bartallah, a predominantly Iraqi Christian town north of Mosul, suffered heavy civilian casualties after a night of intense coalition bombing. The local chief surgeon at the hospital reported that there were 120 dead and wounded civilians brought into the hospital within the past week.

Terrifying film of women and children later emerged after Reuters and the Associated Press were permitted by the Iraqi authorities to take their cameras into the town.
