Nosotrxs en Checkpoint response nos hemos percatado de que no todas las agencias de orden público están cumpliendo con la ley AB353 como se debe. (La ley permite que a un conductor detenido en un retén cuyo único delito es manejar sin licencia llame a alguien con licencia para recoger el auto.) Si cae en un retén, tiene que reclamar su derecho de llamar a alguien más porque no le van a informar. We at Checkpoint response have found out that not all the law enforcement agencies are following the AB 353 law like they should. (That is the law that permits drivers who get caught going through checkpoints without licenses to call a licensed driver to get the car.) If you go through a checkpoint, you must speak up in order to exercise your right, because the police are not informing people of their options. And if they do not allow you to call a licensed driver, please inform us or your local organization. Send an email to noretenes@gmail.com.

In the State of California, a neew law will take effect beginning January 1 that will limit the length of a car's impoundment to one day, down from 30 days. This change marks a gain for you, the people who, day by day, have struggled against this injustice. Let's pat ourselves on the back, certainly, but without taking a break because other injustices continue to occur that we must halt if we're to create a better world.

¡Felicidades compañerxs! Seguimos en la lucha y en apoyo de todos los plantones de la movida "Occupy" en todo el mundo. Ojo--la revolución ha comenzado y por lo tanto, las autoridades ilegítimas del estado corporativo tomará cualquier pretexto para detener a nuestra gente--seamos activistas o no. Con más razón hay que poner atención a los retenes, evitarlos, y luchar contra ellos más que nunca. Ahí les va la información (incompleta, por seguro) para los retenes de estos días para que nos pongamos listxs y sigamos todxs en la lucha!
Happy holidays comrades! We continue in the struggle and in support of all Occupy encampments worldwide. Caution--the revolution has begun, and therefore, the illegitimate authorities of the corporate state will use any pretext to detain our people--be they activists or not. We have more reason than ever to pay attention to these checkpoints, avoid them, and fight against them. Here is the information (incomplete, certainly) about the checkpoints in the coming days so we can get wise about them and continue in the struggle!
