The leadership of UAW Local 2865 - the UC graduate student union - has hijacked the election to retain incumbent power. Halfway through the ballot count, it appeared possible that a slate of reformers, Academic Workers for a Democratic Union, would win the election. At 8 pm April 30, the incumbent-controlled election committee abruptly decided to terminate the vote count and announced that the incumbent candidates themselves will decide on how the count should proceed.

Popular immigration lawyer gets 2 year jail sentence (tags)
An immigration lawyer, who once run one of the biggest immigration law firms on the West Coast, was sentenced early this week to two years in federal prison for filing fraudulent visa applications, some of which were for their own employees, according to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office said. A senior associate of the same firm was sentenced to three years probation, plus 200 hours of community service.

Instead of going after the cabal that lied the country into the Iraqi War, Special Counsel, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, focused on only one defendant, Irving “Scooter” Libby. He also made sure no conspiracy count was utilized in the indictment against him. V.P. Dick Cheney will not testify at Libby’s trial. Two men were at the central tabulation terminals, the computers that add up all the votes from precincts around the county. Sequoia employee Michael Frontera was sitting at central tabulator terminal typing into the program, and Sequoia employee Eddie Campbell was standing next to him talking to him.
