The peace community lost a staunch supporter last week with the death of Eleanor Belser, who passed away at her home in Mar Vista. Eleanor was 89.

To mark the one-year Anniversary of the struggle against the war, Mar Vista Neighbors for Peace and Justice organized a gathering--The Peace Circle. About one hundred people sang and spoke during two hours about their feeling about the war in Iraq.

Eleven people from the Mar Vista Neighbors for Peace and Justice entered the Vons store in Mar Vista at 2 PM. They filled their cart to the brim, got their groceries bagged, left them and walked away without paying the scabs. Outside 50 strikers from different stores came to support this direct action. Many people at the scene pledged to organize similar actions in the near future.

Mar Vista Neighbors for Peace and Justice has initiated a campaign to oppose war profiteering. At their weekly vigil May 16, Mar Vista NPJ called a meeting of the "Halliburton Board of Directors."
