Dear Radio Friend,

This week's show features stories from NHK World Radio Japan, Radio Havana Cuba, Spanish National Radio, and Sputnik Radio

From JAPAN- The Japanese government is going to lead a global effort to clean the oceans from plastic and other waste materials. Japan wants to propose restarting the commercial hunting of some types of whales.

From CUBA- Pastors For Peace are protesting that under the Trump administration it has become more difficult for individuals to travel to Cuba. Israel is leasing military drones to Germany for over a billion dollars. Russia says that the US and its allies are relying on fabricated evidence to accuse the Syrian government of conducting chemical attacks. The Brazilian Supreme Court has denied Lula da Silva a request to suspend imprisonment until the final judgement in his corruption case. The UN Human Rights administration has urged Trump to find alternatives to his current immigration policies and stop detaining children.

From SPAIN- Alison Hughes reports on the state of migration in Europe. Spain rescued over a thousand refugees at sea last week, after allowing 600 to disembark from a rescue ship that had been denied entry into Italy. The EU lacks a unified policy on migration and efforts are focusing on keeping boats from leaving Libyan and Moroccan waters. Germany called a mini-summit last weekend and most countries endorsed the idea of internment camps for asylum seekers. A Spanish politician called for an examination of the causes of the migrations and 4 NGOs called for Spain to halt arm sales to Saudi Arabia and Israel.

From RUSSIA- Afshin Rattansi interviewed journalist Matt Taibbi about Trump's immigration policies, what Melania's jacket was intended to distract the press and public from, and the dangerous topics that Democrats and Republicans agree upon- military spending and targeted assassinations.
