A weekly 30 minute review of international news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio and the internet. With times, frequencies, and websites for listening at home. 3 files- Highest quality broadcast, regular broadcast, and slow-modem streaming. Spanish National Radio, NHK Japan, and Sputnik Radio.

Dear Radio Friend,

This week's show features stories from Spanish National Radio, NHK World Radio Japan, and Sputnik Radio.

From SPAIN- Alison Hughes begins with a report on the ousting of Spanish PM Rajoy by a vote of no confidence in the parliament. 29 members of Rajoy's Popular Party were convicted of crimes including embezzlement, money laundering and bribes. Pedro Sanchez, a Socialist, became the new head of state through a coalition including Catalan separatists. Catalan has returned to self-governance, with their leader Quim Torra confirming the goal of creating the Republic of Catalonia. In Yemen, Saudi and UAE forces are moving toward the port city of Hodeidah, where the vast majority of Yemeni food enters the country. The Saudis claim Iran ships weapons to the rebels there, but numerous investigations have been unable to confirm that. The UAE has asked the US for direct military support to seize the port. On Friday a 21 year old Palestinian paramedic, Rouzan al-Najjar, was shot dead while tending the injured during weekly protests at the Israeli separation fence with Gaza. She and numerous other clearly marked medical workers have been shot by Israeli snipers during protests that began in March. The UN and numerous other human rights groups have expressed outrage over these shootings. At the UN, the US, led by Nikki Haley, vetoed a Security Council resolution that would have protected Palestinians and condemned Israel. Ms. Haley followed with a resolution condemning Hamas for the Gaza violence which failed to get any support from fellow Council members.

From JAPAN- The UN General Assembly elected Ecuador's Foreign Minister, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, as its next president. The EU is struggling to reach a consensus on reforms to migration policy, with some countries refusing to accept mandated asylum seekers. The new Italian Prime Minister Conte wants to review immigration policy and EU sanctions on Russia, and denied that Italy will leave the EU. The office of the Human Rights Commission has called on the US to immediately halt the practice of separating families in actions against undocumented immigrants. The Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and US secretary of State Pompeo demanded that North Korea must agree to completely denuclearize at the upcoming summit.

From RUSSIA- Afshin Rattansi interviewed journalist and author Gareth Porter about media reports that the CIA leaked information that North Korea will not abandon nuclear weapons. Porter says it was an exercise in disinformation by the corporate news media. He says that media is working to support the military industrial complex which does not want to lose its justification for operating in northeast Asia.
