Angelenos plan LAX protest of Turkey’s Dirty War against Kurds
Mark 1st Anniversary of ISIS Terrorist Attack in Suruç
WHAT:
In the wake of a failed coup attempt, Southern California Kurdish solidarity organizations will gather in front of the Turkish Airlines Terminal on July 20th to commemorate the first anniversary of ISIS’ massacre of 33 peace activists in Suruç, Turkey and call on the Turkish government (the owner of Turkish Airlines) to stop giving safe haven to ISIS and end its dirty war against Kurds, the largest ethnic minority in Turkey. Before their murder, the 33 peace activists were planning to enter to Syria to help rebuild cities destroyed by ISIS. After the massacre, instead of combating ISIS and other extremists, Turkey’s Government launched a dirty war against its Kurdish population and opposition activists which has led to the displacement of as many as 350,000 people and the deaths of thousands. Two survivors of the massacre, Claire Keating, an LA public school teacher, and Chris Wohlers, a radiation oncology student will speak about their experiences at the scene of the massacre. Chris and Claire are available for media interviews at or in advance of the action.
WHEN: 6 PM
Short Speeches at 6:15 PM
July 20th, 2016
WHERE: Tom Bradley International Terminal Arrivals, Los Angeles International Airport,
1 World Way, Los Angeles, CA
Activists have chosen Turkish Airlines as the location of the action as it is controlled by the Turkish government and run by an appointee of Turkey’s governing political party.
