In response to a criticism that characterized yesterday's anti-nazi action as one among "idiotic useless fights that waste time & spirit & strength":
1. This neo nazi rally was a bid to unite a variety of groups that normally don't roll together at all. It was also was organized literally as a bid for the alt-right ppl to take it "from the internet to the streets", to neutralize "antifa" (Their strategy recognized that resistance "owned the streets" and that they needed to counter that to grow. This is their own analysis, largely correct on both counts btw.) This strategic development of theirs is now completely stymied.
2. These movements don't organize and grow on the same themes and basis as resistance movements. They thrive on, among other things, projecting power, in image as well as irl on the street via intimidation. They don't make bids for conventional legitimacy or make appeals to ethics, but instead offer an identity of power and valor to demoralized, resentful whites. This was denied them yesterday. and the months of buzz they built around this event is completely trashed.
3. Today Heimbach and the TWP that was orchestrating this fascist "unity" is completely discredited. These various formations out there involved are now at each other's throats placing blame and talking shit. Real effects.
4. Yesterday saw a unity on our part across an inspiring spectrum. native, latinx, black, queer, trans, anarchist, working class white kids without affiliation, punks, commies, etc.... the reality defies the facile "antifa" image out there. Yesterday and, just as importantly, all the organizing that led up to this and continues has value and is a real building step.
There's more. But ppl need to investigate before critiquing.
And yeah, the possible negative effect of us spectacularizing these nazi stunts is debated and evaluated. If yesterday results in boosting their numbers and activity, strategy will be adjusted.
Don't assume our side isn't engaged on a critical and strategic level.
