Re Ted Cruz role in the court case Medellín v. Texas:

Ted Cruz as Solicitor General in Texas supported the Texecution machine of Rick Perry (234 deaths.. the most executing administration in US history and a number greater than many countries put together). As Solicitor General in Texas he argued before the Supreme Court that Texas had the right to ignore the protections of the Vienna Convention to which the US was a signatory. The Convention guarantees that foreigners arrested have the right

to contact their consulates. Under Governors George Bush, Ann Richard, Rick Perry and perhaps other Texas governors, the state executed Mexican, Canadian, German citizens without honoring their right to contact their consulates.

Ted Cruz in his 2012 Senate race said that the accomplishment of which he was most proud as Solicitor General in Texas was Medelin V Texas in which he argued that Americans need not honor their international treaties such as the Vienna Convention which requires the US to allow foreigners to contact their consulates.. Cruz was upheld by the 5 scofflaw Republicans on the Supreme Court.

From Wikipedia
"In 1969, the United States ratified the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of April 24, 1963,[5] and the Optional Protocol Concerning the Compulsory Settlement of Disputes to the Vienna Convention of April 24, 1963.[6] Article 36 of the Vienna Convention requires that foreign nationals who are arrested or detained be given notice "without delay" of their right to have their embassy or consulate notified of that arrest. The Optional Protocol provides that disputes arising out of the interpretation or application of the Vienna Convention "shall lie within the compulsory jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice".

Meanwhile Rand Paul this year won the CPAC straw poll for the 2nd year in a row, as his father won many caucuses
