The Vietnam War was a very unneccessary, long and monumentally grotesque with over a million deaths in sevral countries and over 5 countries providing material, aid or troops for "our side".Anti-war demonstrators met with US troops at coffee houses near US bases in the US

in an attempt to win support for alternatives to the war. This was widely reported in the alternative press and sometimes in major media nationally. The demonstrators used discussions with soldiers being sent to theto then South Vietnam where the majority of troops were stationed. Most of these Americans were volunteers not drafted and it was a Rainbow of Caucasians, African-Americans, Mexican-Americans and others who served and suffered some tragically some lonely. The anti-war effort in the 1960's and 1970's was diverse, local and national yet it left an earthquake of experiences for the American people who face continuing oppression such as police violence, over taxation of certain classes, lack of social safety nets, exploitation of certain groups and other ills that have allies but lack direction.
