Tropical Malaria, Roche, The Pentagon, American, British And Irish Soldiers

Despite growing evidence, the Pentagon continued to force the suicide and homicide pill Lariam, made by Swiss company Roche, onto US soldiers between 1989 and 2008. Irish and British soldiers as well have been given the lethal drug.

Veterans groups are publicizing that there were more American soldier suicides in one year than other casualties of war in 10 years. Lariam, made by Roche,

has been called the suicide and homicide drug. Soldiers from 1989 to 2008 were given it once a week.

Irish media too is concerned about Lariam's causing suicides among their soldiers. *7

British soldiers sent to W. Africa are being given the drug. *8

In its antisuicide initiative the US government has ignored Lariam and other antimalarial drugs. *11

Lariam, the alleged antimalarial drug, was born at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. *9

As so often happens, research money is stolen from the public to develop drugs whose patents

are then given to international drug companies like Roche.

"The Food and Drug Administration announced on Monday that a commonly used anti-malaria drug

must carry the so-called black box warning on its label because of the danger

that the drug could cause serious neurological and psychiatric side effects, some of which can become permanent." New York Times *5

Is the Pentagon fibbing in claiming that malaria, a tropical and subtropical disease, is in freezing Afghanistan? Roche (which sold the drug Tamiflu's US distribution rights to Donald Rumsfeld, the man who caused Ronald Reagan to counteract the ban on aspartame (NutraSweet)

originally developed by Rumsfeld's company as an antikiller)) supplied the drug Lariam to the Pentagon from 1989 til 2008. Should Roche pay damages to all the dead soldiers' families and to travelers who killed others or themselves or suffered side effects? Soldiers have not given informed consent to having 1 pill a week of Lariam and later of generics forced on them.

"The drug has long carried warnings tying it to dizziness, seizures, insomnia, anxiety, depression and strange dreams.

One clinical trial found that 29% of travelers who took mefloquine experienced at least one of those side effects.

There is also evidence suggesting a link to violent behavior, including suicide." (and homicide) *3 LA Times
