‘What You Saw Here Today Was Naked, Blind Antisemitism:’ NYC Councilman Slams Palestine Activists Who Disrupted Auschwitz Commemoration
New York City Councilman David Greenfield fiercely denounced a group of antisemitic pro-Palestinian demonstrators who disrupted a Council meeting today, at the exact time that a resolution commemorating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz was being discussed.
Moments after the demonstrators were escorted from the chamber by security guards, Greenfield, the grandchild of Holocaust survivors, began a speech that rapidly evolved into an impassioned discourse on the overlap between hatred of Israel and hatred of Jews.
“While we were discussing a resolution regarding the murder of 1.1 million human beings – I will point out that 90 percent of them were Jewish, but the other 10 percent, they were political dissidents, they were Jehovah’s Witnesses, they were gays, those were the people who were being killed together at Auschwitz-Birkenau,” Greenfield declared, “while we were discussing that, they had the chutzpah, the nerve, the temerity, to unfurl a Palestinian flag and yell at us.”
Voice rising, Greenfield contrasted Israel’s open society with the repressive regimes across the Middle East, before asserting, “What you saw here today was naked, blind antisemitism.”
Greenfield said that the demonstrators had unfurled the Palestinian flag out of anger that “Hitler had not finished the job. He only wiped out half of my family.”
He concluded: “Shame on them for disrespecting the most diverse democratically elected body in the United States of America, and that’s why we go to Israel.”
The demonstrators immediate target was the trip to Israel which Councilman Greenfield referred to, planned for next year, and involving City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and 14 other Council members. Footage of the demonstrators showed them in a state of collective hysteria, showering abuse and hatred upon the council’s members.
Other councillors joined Greenfield in condemning the antisemitic disruption, which included the fringe group “Jewish Voice for Peace” among the participants. “City Council protesters today were so hate-filled and venomous that they strengthened our support for Israel, ONLY democracy in Middle east,” tweeted Councilman Mark D. Levine. Councilman Cory Johnson called the demonstration “incredibly disrespectful and offensive. Simply awful.”
Republican Councilman Eric Ulrich told the meeting that “to be pro Israel you don’t have to be Jewish. Israel is a vibrant democracy and I’m proud to go back to Israel again. I will not be intimidated by the hecklers. I will not sit here and allow people to attack the Jews.”

Today, as reported at JP UPdates. Jewish Voice for Peace and others disrupted a Holocaust Memorial Resolution being passed in the NYC City Council, all to further their obscene agenda. The group, it turns out were incensed that some council members were planning a visit to Israel.
Pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel activists disrupted the City Council’s stated meeting on Thursday while members were voting on a resolution commemorating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The protesters started yelling, “why are you supporting apartheid” and “Palestinian lives matter. After five minutes of yelling and screaming, the some 40 protesters were ordered to leave and were escorted off the balcony.
Thus to the Seattle Jewish Federation, to Hillel, to the JTNews, you can no longer say you did not know. The next time you open your pages to JVP in our community newspaper or you roll out the red carpet for them in your Young Leadership sessions, you do so with eyes wide open, knowing full well who they are and what they have done.
Despite the desecration of the memories of our lost millions there was a redeeming moment in the NYC council chambers as Councilman David Greenfield proclaimed to the assembled in righteous outrage…
“I am still shaken, upset and angry. While we were discussing a resolution regarding the murder of 1.1 million human beings – I will point out that 90 percent of them were Jewish, but the other 10 percent, they were political dissidents .. those were the people who were being killed together at Auschwitz-Birkenau. While we were discussing that, they had the chutzpah, the nerve, the temerity, to unfurl a Palestinian flag and yell at us.”
“But I’m pleased, because we can stop pretending that this is about Israel. What we saw here was naked, blind antisemitism, good old fashioned antisemitism, that’s what you saw, and that’s what you watched, and that’s what you witnessed – people who were upset for one reason. Do you want to know why they’re upset, do you want to know why they’re angry, do you want to know why they unfurled that flag today? Because Hitler did not finish the job. He only wiped out half of my family.”

Via Legal Insurrection "There is no low too low for anti-Israel activists." his has to be a new low.
Anti-Israel activists in New York City have started a campaign as part of the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions movement to try to prevent City Council members and other politicians from visiting Israel. A coalition of 40 groups, most of which are quite small but including the usual suspects like the inaccurately named Jewish Voice for Peace are leading the effort.
At a NY City Council meeting today, anti-Israel activists disrupted a vote commemorating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, shouting for one of the council members not to travel to Israel, as reported by Jacob Kornbluh at Jewish Political News & Updates website, which has video:
Pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel activists disrupted the City Council’s stated meeting on Thursday while members were voting on a resolution commemorating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
The protesters started yelling, “shame on you, Melissa”, “why are you supporting an apartheid” and “Palestinian lives matter.”
After five minutes of yelling and screaming, the some 40 protesters were ordered to leave and escorted out the balcony.
Council member Cory Johnson called it “incredibly disrespectful and offensive. Simply awful.” Councilman Mark Weprin added, “The State of Israel has never supported the killing of innocent people, and they want to love in peace.”
“I am still shaken, upset and angry,” Councilman David Greenfield. “Shame on them for hating Jews.”
“But I’m pleased, because we can stop pretending that this is about Israel. What we saw here was blatant antisemitism, good old fashioned antisemitism,” Greenfield roared. “They were angry, you know why? because Hitler did not finish the job.”
The trip to Israel is a message that “we will not be cowered by this fear and hatred,” he added….
Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito said in an emailed statement, “At a time when the Council was voting on a resolution commemorating the 70thanniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, this outburst was offensive, outrageous and counter to the values of the City Council.”

Full transcript of City councilman David Greenfield's reaction to Jewish Voice for Peace's disruption of the Holocaust commemoration
"I am still shaken to my core, I'm upset, I'm angry. but I'll tell you honestly I'm actually somewhat pleased at what we saw here today. if you are wondering why I'm saying that its because for the last few weeks we've heard from people who've said "Oh, we don't dislike Jews. We only dislike the state of Israel. We have no problem with you we simply don't want you to go to Israel" But we know that's not really at the core of what they are saying and today they proved it.
While we were discussing a resolution regarding the murder of 1.1million human beings- I will point out that 90% were Jewish but the other 10 % were political dissidents, they were Jehovah's witnesses, they were gays- those were the people who were being killed together in Auschwitz Birkenau. While we were discussing that they had the nerve, the chutzpah, the temerity to unfurl a Palestinian flag and to yell at us while we were discussing that.
So the reason I'm pleased is because we can stop pretending that this is about Israel when the reality is that every middle eastern country that is in existence today is not democratic and persecutes people of other faiths, and persecutes gays and persecutes people who disagree with them and persecutes people on Twitter and persecutes women who drive -except for one country- which is the state of Israel.
So what you saw here today was naked blind anti-semitism. That's what you saw. That's what you watched and that's what you witnessed. People who are upset for one reason. you want to know why they are angry? you want to know why they are unfurling that flag today? Because Hitler did not finish the job. he only wiped out half of my family. And only by the grace of G-d is the other half, me, the grandchild still alive today. That's why those people are upset. Shame on them.Shame on them for hating Jews. Shame on them for hating people. Shame on them for disrespecting the most diverse democratically elected body in the United States of America. That's why we go to Israel. We go to Israel to make a message that is clear that we will not be cowered by this fear and by this hatred that we have. These are people that would celebrate the death of Jews rather than mourn the deaths of innocents. I am embarrassed at what happened here today but I am pleased that we finally see what this is all about. Good old fashioned anti-Semitism.
Thank you."

Jewish voice for peace sat through an hour and 26 minutes of boring council business, and waiting for the precise moment of the Aushwitz commemoration to interrupt.
What kind of "Jewish" organization does that sort of thing?

Aushwitz [sp]Remembered? That's Auschwitz, there, bonehead. You know, the I.G. Farben forced labor camp. The very same facility owned by the Warbergs Zionists. Hmmm

Auschwitz concentration camp (German: Konzentrationslager Auschwitz [kʰɔnʦɛntʁaˈʦi̯oːnsˌlaːɡɐ ˈʔaʊ̯ʃvɪt͡s] ( listen)) was a network of German Nazi concentration camps and extermination camps built and operated by the Third Reich in Polish areas annexed by Nazi Germany during World War II. It consisted of Auschwitz I (the original camp), Auschwitz II–Birkenau (a combination concentration/extermination camp), Auschwitz III–Monowitz (a labor camp to staff an IG Farben factory), and 45 satellite camps.
Auschwitz I was first constructed to hold Polish political prisoners, who began to arrive in May 1940. The first extermination of prisoners took place in September 1941, and Auschwitz II–Birkenau went on to become a major site of the Nazi "Final Solution to the Jewish question". From early 1942 until late 1944, transport trains delivered Jews to the camp's gas chambers from all over German-occupied Europe, where they were killed with the pesticide Zyklon B. At least 1.1 million prisoners died at Auschwitz, around 90 percent of them Jewish; approximately 1 in 6 Jews killed in the Holocaust died at the camp. Others deported to Auschwitz included 150,000 Poles, 23,000 Romani and Sinti, 15,000 Soviet prisoners of war, 400 Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, and tens of thousands of people of diverse nationalities. Many of those not killed in the gas chambers died of starvation, forced labor, infectious diseases, individual executions, and medical experiments.

the Zionist cult remained placid if not greatly enriched by the 'sacrifice' of their 'fellow' Jews where they made fortunes.

Don't diss Jewish Voice for Peace- they were instrumental in helping divestment pass at my school- they held our hand every step of the way, from writing our speeches to funding our pizzas.

Anti-semites often attempt to infiltrate the pro-Pakestinian movement and make it seem that they are part of the mainstream; their aim is to disrupt the movement and many of them are probably paid agent provocateurs. Apologists for Zionism love to focus on these nuts because it allows the apologists to evade discussing real issues, such as illegal settlements on the West Bank or the original ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948 by people like Begin and Shamir.l
