VENICE, CA – Los Angeles filmmaker Eileen Mabel is hosting An Evening with Mabel, a one-time cultural event and first screening of her documentary film Finding Mabel, Saturday, November 22, 2014 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Beyond Baroque, a premier independent art’s center at 681 Venice Blvd, Venice CA 90291. Finding Mabel traces Eileen’s journey to uncover the full story of her namesake Mabel, who at 19, became one of the 30,000 who disappeared during Argentina’s infamous “Dirty War” (1976- 1983).
An Evening with Mabel will feature Argentine music, food, drinks, desserts, and a silent auction & raffle, followed by an indoor/outdoor screening of the film and Q&A with director Eileen Mabel. This event is an opportunity to share in Argentine culture, learn about the country’s recent history, and honor the 30,000 Desaparecidos. Tickets are $20 and proceeds go towards post production & film festival submissions. Media inquiries are welcomed. Journalists with valid press credentials will be admitted free.
Finding Mabel takes the audience on a journey through both contemporary and historic Argentina as the filmmaker reconstructs the stirring true story of her namesake, Mabel.
“As the namesake of one of Argentina’s 30,000 disappeared, this project is deeply personal for me. It is a quest to honor my namesake, Mabel, and to explore my own identity and that of my Argentine heritage,” says the filmmaker. “I am so excited to bring Mabel’s legacy to light and to honor her by sharing this long time passion project with my Los Angeles community.”
Eileen Mabel was born and raised in California after her parents fled Argentina to the US during Argentina’s military dictatorship in the 1970’s.
