Every time Charles Rangel ( D - NY ) gets a jury summons in the
mail he reproposes restarting the U.S. military draft.
The individual mandate that requires all individuals to serve on juries
is the pilot light that threatens to restart the individual mandate
that all young men serve in the U.S. military.
The small percentage of politicians who oppose the military draft should
consider also opposing mandatory jury duty. It is certainly possible
to convert all courts to use an all volunteer jury system. Try to
imagine volunteers choosing a courthouse and starting week to begin serving
on a jury. In the legislative version of an all volunteer jury system
volunteers do not have to choose individual trials with a conflict of
interest but only choose the courthouse and starting week.
The question is when is the best time to introduce the bill to abolish
mandatory jury duty. Do you really want to wait until a second Viet-Nam
war reinstates the U.S. military draft and drafts and hurts and kills
millions of American young men ??
If politicians or voters
hurry up and get an all volunteer jury system passed right
away that will put out the pilot light so it will no longer be possible
to restart the U.S. military draft. If you do not want another U.S.
military draft and a losable war to go with it try to get an all volunteer
jury system passed now in order to preserve the all volunteer U.S.
military.
