National House Race: Ohio 16th: A Democrat Runs Against A Repubican Nursing Home Profiitee

by Take Back The House Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014 at 8:39 PM

In Ohio, a congressional race pits a Democrat against a Republican sued many times over appalling conditions at his nursing home chain and other business ventures.

Democrat Pete Crossland, an early opponent of the Vietnam war, is running against Republican Jim Renacci for representative in the House of Representatives from the 16th District of Ohio who has been sued for nursing home negligence.

"A former member of the Ohio House of Representatives. Pete Crossland served as a member on Summit County Council for 22 years. . Prior to his service on Summit County Council, Crossland was as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1973 to 1983. In 1983, he was appointed Assistant Director of the Ohio Department of Youth Services by Governor Richard Celeste. Crossland earned a B.A. from Miami University in 1959. He attained a B.D. from Yale University in 1963 and a Ph.D. from Duke University in 1966."

Republican Jim Renacci was called by Politico a serial litigant. He has been sued many times, including wrongful death suits involving appalling conditions in LTC, the nursing home chain he founded. He has developed a fortune somewhere between 36 and 100 million dollars, some of it derived from criminal neglect of nursing home clients. 6 of his temporary employees alleged they were not paid for work done in his medical billion operations. Sometimes he settled out of court. Sometimes the cases were dismissed. Recently he sued a union for underlining his record in an ad.

Renacci who has voted against many programs for the poor, nevertheless in his car dealership took a lot of money from the government in the 'cash for clunkers' program.
