The reality does not match the president's descriptions of the Great American matrix.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics there were nearly 5,000 arrest related deaths in the U.S. during a study conducted from 2003 to 2009.
OOPS!!!!
According to that same report such deaths are under-reported and 3 states, including the one I live in, did not bother to open their records to the inspection.
The president made a big dramatic speech about how the U.S. would not tolerate the slaughter of any American anywhere in the world. Maybe he needs to walk outside the gates of the White House and look around.
Google “arrest related deaths” U.S. and see all the good stuff you get.
The militarization of our police is a major cause of such problems. Surely you have been reading the news. The high and mighty police talking heads staunchly defend ALL of their practices on the grounds that these tactics and weapons are needed to do their work in the face of all the violence, drugs and guns rampant in America.
Hogwash. What is really happening is that to the common American, trying to work and live in the U.S., not only must we endure the violence, drugs and guns but now we must also endure the abuses of overly zealous police.
Preach on, mr. president.
