In solidarity for peace in the Middle east- 5,000 strong. Way to go, LA!

A peaceful pro-Israel rally in front of the Federal Building in Westwood in West Los Angeles was interrupted late Sunday afternoon when three or four men wielding Palestinian flags arrived carrying long wooden sticks and alledgely attacked the pro-Israel demonstrators. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that more than 1,200 attended the rally.

Witnesses said several of the pro-Israel participants were hit by the sticks, but police would not immediately confirm or comment on whether anyone was wounded. A separate counter protest of about 200 supporting the Palestinians was held across the street.

When Los Angeles police who were already on the scene stopped in to break up the scuffle, the attackers returned to their pickup truck and drove off. As they left, witnesses say, a gun was fired in the direction of the truck by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was at the scene, according to Brian Thomas of the LAPD West Los Angeles Patrol Division.

There were four people riding in the truck, all Palestinians living in Anaheim, according to one of them, Hany Rafai, who said he got out of the truck before the police stopped it. Rafai denied that they were hitting the pro-Israelis. Rafai lives in both Jordan and Orange County.

Barry Poltorak, an off-duty Los Angeles County deputy sheriff who witnessed the incident Sunday afternoon said the perpetrators could be charged with “felony assault.” The perpetrators are believed to have been apprehended according to an officer on the scene.

Poltorak said he had heard over his radio that the police pulled the car over in Westwood, for a “felony traffic stop,” he said.

Adam Milstein, an Israeli-born philanthropist and board member of the Israel American Council (IAC) said that the rally was one of the largest pro-Israel rallies that LA has had. Speakers included Rabbi Marvin Hier, dean and founder of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Roz Rothstein co-founder and CEO of StandWithUs, Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer and Israeli actress and activist Noa Tishby, among others.

The IAC and StandWithUs were the co-organizers of the event, along with many other local Jewish and pro-Israel organizations.

WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Violence erupted Sunday afternoon during a pro-Israel peace rally in Westwood.

The rally was taking place in front of the Federal Building with more than 2,000 participants.

Witnesses said four men — believed to be members of Hamas — waved pro-Palestinian flags and started to attack the pro-Israel demonstrators with sticks.

There was also a report of a car being shot at. Some witnesses said the shot was possibly fired by a police officer and not by a demonstrator. LAPD West LA division would only confirm a shooting took place.

No one was injured in the shooting, officials said.

Whenver I see a hundred flags for a country, I sure as hell don't think it's a "peace" rally.

If you went to a rally and saw a bunch of American flags, would you think it's about "peace"? No. It's got to be about war, or some other nationalist project.

Ukraine tries Israeli human traffickers

Six members of an Israeli human trafficking ring, which operated in the Republic of Azerbaijan, are on trial in a special court in Ukraine.


Three members of the ring, which specialized in selling body organs from trafficked victims, worked at a clinic in Azerbaijan's capital city of Baku, IRIB reported on Friday.

Run by an Israeli national with no medical training, the clinic was used as a front for trafficking body organs harvested from Azeri children.

An official report issued by Ukrainian authorities said that the criminal Israeli ring has been involved in 25 cases of organ trafficking, though the actual number of operations is presumed to be much higher.

Although the ring operated in Azerbaijan, the Azeri press has remained silent on the case so as not to disrupt relations with the Zionist regime of Israel.

It is believed that the trial is being in Ukrainian capital city, Kiev, in order to prevent disclosure of other crimes committed by the criminal ring which is directly supported by the Israeli regime.

Political observers believe that Azerbaijan eagerness to develop closer with Israel is the main reason which has emboldened the Israeli regime to commit such crimes in the country.

This is not the first organ trafficking case Israelis have been involved in. In August 2010, Ukrainian police smashed an Israeli-run organ trafficking network illegally recruiting donors to send their body organs to Israel.

The network, which sought mostly kidneys, offered as much as USD 10,000 per organ and according to Ukraine's interior ministry most of the donors were impoverished young women.

While the organization sold the kidneys for USD 140,000, some of the organ donors received no money after their kidneys were removed in countries like Azerbaijan and the Philippines.

Of course I've been to Cinco de Mayo. It's nationalistic. The main mitigating factor is that a lot of Americans hate Mexico, so there's a healthy dose of defiance in flying that flag, but the overall vibe is nationalistic.

And then there's dealing with people getting just a little too racist about El Salvadoreans or dark skinned or black Latinos. It's old. People should drop that stuff. Address the oppression, don't perpetuate it.

I'm not saying i'm not racist, or that my ancestors weren't racist. Everyone's a little racist at least, and some of my ancestors were definitely going along with the racism of the societies they came from. But there's a time to stop that nonsense, and it's right now.

Likewise, the extreme nationalism and flag waving. Yes, it can be fun, and it can unite people, but it can also be a reminder of some not-fun-shit.

Given this horrible situation we're seeing go down about the children fleeing violence in Central America, and given that Mexico hasn't exactly helped them either, we should maybe think twice about what the US and Mexican flags mean for our part of the world.

So let's bring it back. I associate the Israel flag with racism against Arabs. Every once in a blue moon, you come across someone who is an Israeli, and is just spouting a lot of racist speech about Arabs. It's just really disconcerting and upsetting, but knowing so little about the situation there, any complaints get deflected as ignorance. But I can tell racism when I hear it, and it's racism.

If some of you racists are reading this, who say things about Arabs having so many babies, or how they are animals, or whatever... that's racism. Not only that, but there are reasons why some of your relatives and some of your relatives' friends aren't hanging out with you anymore. It's because we're disgusted with your speech.

Maybe it reminds us of some bigotry we have experienced ourselves.

I think there are multiple things to deal with. People can handle multiple things, and climate issues are going to require larger scale changes that require city and state level intervention. Individuals can't for example, add a fuckload more holidays to the calendar to reduce work and consumption.

As for class struggle - the real struggle was in the 30s.

The 60s were the great society, and after the 60s, the class struggle eroded and was destroyed. It was the last hurrah. It never went away for POC, but it did for many women, and it did for whites. It didn't come back until Occupy Wall Street.

What the 60s did was replace a collective identity, which people were really open for in the 30s, with an individualist ideology. This mainly happened with white people, who could afford the high cost of individualism, but it affected everyone.

In communities of color, collectivity persisted, but came to be replaced by nonprofits. They soaked up the fighting spirit, replacing it with jobs at nonprofits.

Environmentalism morphed from a working class and middle class community fight against pollution and explotiation, to a more indivduated desire for good health.

I'm not sure what class struggle with climate change should be. Probably, we need to seriously look at ways to reduce production and consumption of goods and services, while maintaining the important parts of the wealthy, modern society. The starvation of the masses shouldn't be the source of carbon dioxide reduction.

While I want Israel to make peace, and also to give full citizenship rights to Arabs (and everyone, really) in Israel, I cannot say I feel like I can criticize about colonization, because I'm an American. England, then the US invaded and colonized this land, committed genocide against the indigenous nations, and created this nation.

In some ways, the outcome was worse than the Nazis - because the Nazis lost. The United States won, and established chattel slavery on the land, created a white supremacist settler nation, and used it as a launching pad to create the global western empire. As an observer I actually notice some similarities to the Latin La Raza movement who claim that MEXICO includes part of California and Arizona, etc. They also claim that god gave their people this land first and it is rightfully theirs before America STOLE IT. Now, imagine if the UN or whoever came in and created a NEW NEW MEXICO in a southwest corner of United States giving this NEW country exclusive sovereignty to Latinos? Think about that for a second. Mitchell, Jr., 53, of Houston, Texas, for Threatening an Immediate Family Member of (former) Vice President Al Gore, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 879(a)(2).

Mitchell was sentenced today by Chief United States District Judge James D. Todd to a term of 18 months in federal prison, for threatening to kill Gore’s maternal uncle, Whit La Fon, 82, a retired state court judge in Jackson, TN



Mitchell was arrested last December in Houston by the Secret Service, who was familiar with Mitchell based on phone calls he had placed to the Carthage, Tennessee home of former U.S. Senator Al Gore, Sr. in 1997.

In the earlier investigation, Mitchell advised Secret Service agents that one of his favorite subjects was the death of Al Gore, Jr.

At his guilty plea on May 18th, Mitchell admitted calling the office of La Fon repeatedly and leaving voice mail messages last November.

Tapes of the calls were played in court documenting the threats to kill La Fon if he did not convince then Vice President Gore to concede the election for President of the United States being contested in Florida.

In one call, Mitchell, identifying himself as “The King of England”, promised to personally drive to Jackson and kill La Fon himself.

Mitchell’s attorney advised Judge Todd that Mitchell, through genealogical research, believes he is the lawful heir to the Crown of St. Edward and thus, is the rightful King of England.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza - At least five Palestinians were killed and 70 others injured on Monday by several Israeli tank shells fired by at al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza.

The bombing carried on throughout much of the day, and according to hospital sources continued well into the evening.

One patient was killed while patients, visitors and hospital staff were among those injured and some 20 medical workers caught up in the shelling, said Dr. Ashraf al-Qudra, head of public relations at the Health Ministry in Gaza.

The strike has left the hospital unable to receive or treat medical cases, with ambulances forced to try and ferry the wounded to other facilities.

However, two ambulances which tried to move the wounded to Shifa hospital, in Gaza City, were then also hit by tank shells.

According to Qudra, the missile damaged several operating rooms as well as key equipment including an oxygen production unit, which is used in a wide range of operations and procedures.

The third and fourth floors and the reception area as well as the upper floor have all been badly damaged, medical sources told the Middle East Eye.

Subsequent rounds of shelling then proceeded to damage the x-ray facilities and maternity wards.

Israel has repeatedly denied targeting medical facilities.

Sometimes land or stuff is traded, but with more advantages to those who can kill, maim, steal, lie and then claim to be winners = by force. That is man's way. Behind every taking or trading there lies force behind insuring that transaction, or that war, or that conquest, or that taking.

how easy to label and claim the 'authority or right' to define who is who and who gets what when. Just as words can easily be used to take or destroy those who have ...as if words were malleable and twistable to one's own version of the world. As done in many comments above. but it may Not be quite so as writers claim. To define words as they want to use them. To force others to fit, agree or be wrong, and deposed, destroyed, killed off, however it is done here on site.

so all the name-calling and name-absolving of each other is really just the same process in another than war-battle arena - here - writers trying to have the force of words to destroy and take [pride, credibility, space to write here, etc ] from the others…. to TAKE once more, by force, [some by mean or accusatory words] because we writing here are not on the street meeting-face-to-face with what else would surely elicit more bodily and violently.

Major Methane Releases at Laptev Megaflare Spot

What is being found is surprising and sobering. As Ulf Hedman, Science Coordinator, Swedish Polar Research Secretariat reported yesterday, they have found at least one “megaflare” of methane release from the Laptev Sea floor into the atmosphere.

In his words, “We are “sniffing” methane. We see the bubbles on video from the camera mounted on the CTD or the Multicorer. All analysis tells the signs. We are in a Mega flare. We see it in the water column we read it above the surface an we follow it up high into the sky with radars and lasers. We see it mixed in the air and carried away with the winds. Methane in the air.”

Guy’s videos on YouTube don’t get many views, not many people are paying attention to any of this, most people don’t want to know, they remain wilfully ignorant. The most idiotic videos on YouTube get 10′s of millions of hit’s, that tells you all you need to know about the general population.

Meaningless trivia is all that occupies their minds. And the leaders of the world, they act like bullies in the school playground.

Nevada's Lake Mead, recently fell to its lowest level since the 1930s, so more than three-quarters of the total water loss in the Colorado River Basin was from groundwater.

The groundwater losses, which take thousands of years to be recharged naturally, point to the unsustainability of exploding population centers and water-intensive agriculture in the basin, which includes most of Arizona and parts of Colorado, California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, and Wyoming.

so why are all individual private citizens blamed and forced to 'conserve' their tiny water use when all the COMMERCIALIZED business use water without a concern, other than their payment costs, which is passed on to customers anyhow.

when water is limited, business always just raise prices, steal from other sources, put up expensive publicity blame campaigns and lobby harder for subsidies - that they can now claim with more the difficult conditions.

Agriculture is no small farmers praying and dancing for rain. Restaurants, food preparation places, janitor services, even skyscraper window washing is continuing on, with business as usual, oh. well, maybe with a price hike that wont go down later if rains do come down.

Why was there no plan for this 'drought' that is not now just sudden but has been here before too ?

Is it because people like to live in fear because they dont have to think - or be kind and sharing - or responsible - when in fear....as in "I can't do anything now ....I am so scared ! "

who pays for the water we used before and at how cheap rates and how much more will it actually honestly cost - per family of 1 or 2 or 3 or 12 [as some people cant help themselves so have lots of kids and may or not be able to fully support them financially themselves and then need government subsidies for water to drink ] ?

how much more will it cost if it is diverted, funneled, twisted and turned to come to the deserted lands ?

this is still not the Sahara, and if it is becoming so, then maybe a move away elsewhere is the better solution ?

Fear is enjoyed by many. Or they would stop agreeing to believe every
'emergency' that is promoted, with or without an environment story to confirm that fear is good for us [vs. politician, commercial, financial story for now, anyhow ]

Fear is just 'a reason' to agree and allow whatever, so temporarily reduce that awful anxiety. Convenient ploys abound, even if water in LA doesnt current-ly.

you have none, that's the whole point - you live in a fucking desert, that has no natural bodies of drinkable water in your region.

there were aquifers that contained fossil water, originally pretty close to the surface, but they have been drained to the extent that salt water is encroaching and ruining them, not to mention, since they take thousands of years to replenish, AND therefore can't be tapped to support millions of people, they don't represent a sustainable water source

so, again, you have no water


here, we get plenty of rain, and water tables are well charged, plus we've got a huge lake and a large river running through.

the whole context of this subject is where people should migrate to and what areas should be evacuated - a discussion you were not a part of (I'm continuing to post data that confirms my recommendation that the LA basin be evacuated, not built up even more - the first data is when it will become too hot to live there ~ 2035) water is an even bigger issue..

whining & complaining about the golf course getting water for 1/3'rd the price we pay doesn't affect the actual situation - you have no water - you're stealing it from other watersheds, and now even those watersheds are drying out.

look at the drought map - the whole southwest is turning into a dustbowl, and THIS TIME because of the rapidly unfolding climate chaos (directly due to the arctic ice melting, altering the jet stream) the drought will never end - at least for 10's of thousands of years.

move now while it's easy. once the stampede begins you will be just another climate refuge UNWELCOME in areas that still have water. this was my original recommendation. it was disputed, so I've been posting data that supports it
